<br />
for all international ladies who have written to me regarding online classes, let's begin with a written tutorial. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibGUM5c9zbmlIqQ8MShb0evQDySsG6eo-apz5LpMwRWNkt58ShEWm7nHVQYlqmn-LOI6Sn-RX0UlYh3pQKFcHBl_kCC_kMk3feHRLz6_mE6UVmmTec8oG8AL09VnitKHe7d0kY0Q/s1600/IMG_5991.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibGUM5c9zbmlIqQ8MShb0evQDySsG6eo-apz5LpMwRWNkt58ShEWm7nHVQYlqmn-LOI6Sn-RX0UlYh3pQKFcHBl_kCC_kMk3feHRLz6_mE6UVmmTec8oG8AL09VnitKHe7d0kY0Q/s320/IMG_5991.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
more than 60 pages and close to 300 pictures, i have put by best effort in writing this <a href="http://merchantofmarvels.blogspot.com/2011/08/travelogue.html" target="_blank">travelogue</a> <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/128981244/travelogue-tutorial?ref=shop_home_active" target="_blank">tutorial</a> as thorough as it possibly can. enjoy the journey.colettehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16643824622558380038noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25076679.post-32367205870622663262013-04-10T04:37:00.002+07:002013-04-10T04:40:06.553+07:00holtzing major style<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
i received a few emails during the week that call me in....i haven't been here in a while. i've been scrapping diligently though; just haven't got the right time to take photos yet.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
sometime last week, i paid some of my unfinished projects a visit and i realized that i've been tim holtzing major style. i suppose i'm one of those late bloomer not in the know that actually tim holtz' papers are very much scrap-able.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
so here they comes...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" multilinks-noscroll="true" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
the wardrobe, the paperbag and the travelogue.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div multilinks-noscroll="true" style="text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiyotZuLzkIXo3Gq7R7DzcUVgO483-7jID91sArfZPwQumS8hoLCA8DNILeyoyTozEEwAc4ntgcabXzzx8vzgJRzznPr8GyFe9UHMCaeLDKt4a_Zyq4z5BwrztNkUKSqBrCuhUjw/s400/IMG_5930.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<br />
<br />
the wardrobe looks like nothing much yet. i can tell you that it's finished with various mediums over paper and chipboard presenting antique wood, leather and reptile textures. i thought i have the inside mapped out, so my ambition in the next few days or weeks is to showcase this piece. well, that's the thought.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div multilinks-noscroll="true" style="text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
i paid many hours into this paperbag album, yet none of the details i foresaw is showing yet. i suppose the only way to finish it is by using it. that will take an eon. i think by the time i'm finished (and i will)<span style="color: #0000ee;">, <span style="color: black;"><i>the random</i></span></span><i> memory</i> will be my longest running album in the making. but i love the idea, so much so that if this is going to be the only project i'm doing for the rest of the year, it will be worth the time and effort. someday, i shall share it.<br />
<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
<div multilinks-noscroll="true">
it's back! this travelogue is a prototype of a class i ran last week. the longest running class ever; 12 hours. i sort of remembered that the last <a href="http://merchantofmarvels.blogspot.com/2011/08/travelogue.html" multilinks-noscroll="true" target="_blank">travelogue</a> was always long and tiring, so i knew this one was going to be a long class with the added features and larger than expected group. what i didn't remember was...oh well, i don't remember many things these days. i was so lethargic that i thought...well never mind what i thought then. in fact, today...5 days later, i still feel the fatigue. it's best blame my hypoglycaemia and anemia, which i stop recalling which type specifically because apparently there's nothing i can do about it.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" multilinks-noscroll="true" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj54NIdbdDi2W6OGJMHgPh3Wgnyp-qbzel6ixA_czr9fqWtjTflJWW7w4Zq0cPNDSJfCS5qxsoBm1GAW6DQtDum8ojDmExxWxEz6o0SHqOMusLjOT-fG8rUgzHkryTryDTfPmKLDQ/s400/IMG_5952.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<br />
<br />
i took 1 shot of the class and that was it. if you've been to my workshop, you know how messy the place is. that day by the time we're leaving i'm surprised how clean all the tables were. there was no trace that i've been there running a class. come to think of it, i figured it's because we're not using any mediums that day. how i miss making a project without using any mediums (by means paint and all), but just paper..lots of paper cutting and glue. <br />
<br />
i thought i could reproduce this travelogue with my eyes closed—figuratively speaking. then i failed the attempt of reproducing another one before the class. perhaps it's just in my mind, but the paper sequence wasn't right and i don't have enough in the stash of what i wanted to use without cheating—meaning taking from another stash—which i knew wouldn't work either because then it becomes repetitive. alright enough with that dilemma. let's just say that i didn't bring enough metal parts home from the workshop.<br />
<br />
anyway, if you're still reading this and you're one of those who have written to me regarding online classes. i have a news. i have written a thorough instruction, over 60 pages that is, for the travelogue using the k & company's <i>around the world</i> collection. not that the paper matters; i also include the photos of this version.<br />
i should be able to make it ready this week.<br />
<br />
since i've taken a few more photos of other projects i'm working on, i might as well share them.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3m-HmMZ72McSmre4XuYoButYJN0pvpmpiGgYolDEzwFepaiCFU8PMn8saqjuUztO26SXnuCM5mnvOQhL2uNLVUYOSYiz5nKGNLcwKgorUJg_5a6vtQbMCwfl9P4PMibEGcpVGdQ/s200/IMG_2396.jpg" width="150" /> <img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7TmQ73kzkNEsB4lxMQq9twGHpYpSwENnbIKr4f_y5A67TM_5fJOf3MkTRUMlvvV_y5-m2DwjV2eeP_ajZ-ixLhyphenhyphen-0iKxPHfcLYccmfFXDr3pPc5A6ncdxCQCcfmjAvyfYdHGW_Q/s200/IMG_2400.jpg" width="150" /></div>

<br />
<br />
i bound 6 of these journal books in 1 sitting over an episode of tv series, but jazzing it up takes forever. not the actual working on it time, but going back and forth getting the mediums and looking for the parts, and "the putting them back in place" time.<br />
<br />

<br />
staring at my <i>memento</i> on the shelf, i rather felt it wasn't quite there yet. visually it didn't speak what's in the mind. so i played with it a bit today.<br />
<br />
and there she is...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="318" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJWr4nWhrsJ3DkyNQZ4u9xQ1yZWoqSx2hT-yO1jHCkegtqvXGukDKIQE43TZ5n38ucvSJydfdWHj86Db30z1ZABQ4dx1X7TQYlThsbuK5jyCy6HBHCvKY47nYjapHBV5PvhLRm-A/s320/13.jpeg" width="320" /></div>
<br />
<br />
the images behind the mother of pearl frame embedded fragments of thought. i wanted to rivet it, but wasn't sure if i would break the delicate frame. stripped from her garments, i moved the wings behind the charlotte which make is more like the winged victory or guardian angel if you will. she's carrying an insignia of the tree of life. it is fashioned like an ancient coin/medal; i made it with clay. so the pure heart/sacred heart is bound on the side with a couple more charms; mi casa milagro and the way of life. on another strand is the coiled lily of the valley which i really like.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
so now they stood regally side by side; wishing the world a wonderful 2013.colettehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16643824622558380038noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25076679.post-62782926214423751072012-12-31T01:01:00.001+07:002016-02-14T15:06:29.044+07:00be still my heart<br />
i'm not into antiques and whimsical, flourish, splatter paint; i just don't really get them. i find them surreal, then again i do not get most of the contemporary art. in the midst of post modern esthetics where it says everything is art, let's be honest — how many of us understand the function and meaning of abstract.<br />
<br />
i learned about the existence of <a href="http://pinterest.com/" target="_blank">pinterest</a> from this blog viewer link. i took notice of some beautiful metal and fabric works by few artists. one captivated me, <a href="http://ornamental.typepad.com/" target="_blank">nina bagley</a>. like silent reverie; her artworks are so deep and complex, yet she delivers them in such harmonious honesty. they speak the foreign language i can comprehend. each piece with its meticulous detail tells a story, and they all have the same tune. nuff said...take a look at them yourself if you're interested. as for me, i can see alabama clearly in the near future; i give myself 12 months to personally learn what i could from her...who knows.<br />
<br />
months ago, i lost interest in papers. i started focusing on familiarizing myself
with the various materials of metal smithing. mixed metal work supplies are hardly
available where i am and they're not easy to bring in due to the
hazardous warnings. as luck would have it, my first stash got stuck. everything got abandoned, but not forgotten...until last month.<br />
<br />
to distract myself from a sadness, last month i picked up where i left them. so they say <i>a journey of a thousand miles begin with a single step</i>.
i did not have the weaponry and ammo for metal works....yet. i tried to make
do with what i have and educated myself with trials the hard way,
starting somewhere and step by step building the arsenal. on boxing day, 3 months later than expected, my stash finally arrived. <br />
<br />
so...inspired by nina bagley and translating one of her work roughly into my own story...<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjki3bhVG9UvUscQR2KTZfwQVx1MVGApTA1qsGO0hvtEQq8rZi1wh_u_zdD8GTZvZVbIRgOX0sOWytKk8_PITNZ6hWfAiauGi3UMbt0w9K7cTnG4BSZmvku7XvdqDmly4MaHHNiqA/s320/10.jpeg" width="320" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>memento</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b> </b></div>
a copper plate book carefully aged; bounded with hand colored silk sari ribbon called <i>love story</i> and interlaced with some spanish lace and hand wrapped antique <i>lily of the valley </i>glass beads on silver plated wire. dangling on a chain are 50mm swarovski wings (the're called <i>pegasus</i> actually). not visible here are a couple of silver plated charms. i acquired antique frozen charlotte circa 1890 directly from thuringia
limbach, germany. somewhat it supposedly stands for the winged victory
of samothrace. on the cover is another swarovski pendant called the <i>wild heart </i>set on a silver plated filigree after my <a href="http://merchantofmarvels.blogspot.com/2012/01/wild-sacred-heart.html" target="_blank">wild sacred heart necklace</a>; except for here, i call it the <i>pure heart</i> after the welsh hymn <i>calon lan</i>. the word <i>memento</i> is engraved using a hand steel stamp.<br />
<br />
you have to excuse the photo which i took with an itouch in my
studio on a rainy day. (like i know how to take a better one on crystals
and metals with a bigger camera). this is the better one of the couple i
have which unfortunately not showing much. thus i tried to narrate what's happening on the cover without going into the symbolic details.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6fOMwBnZCC9wpSYJ4j493Z-Sai55JU7UcdmdmmOH3NFaRCC0oiR2PjBovf8tRANbgUkf9eIl2FGcRgslrOTTPMpNAUFbNApJqYUYOWNdstxgqwwgdhRQY3HXTyyzjKYmpiwoE0Q/s320/coptic.jpeg" width="320" /></div>
<br />
<br />
here is another piece based on what i saw by <a href="http://amarkintime.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">jen crossley</a> which she call hers <i>etched in time</i>.<br />
<br />
<br />
what i purposely didn't do was to call it <i>alis volat propriis</i>
which i always thought of side by side with that goddess nike
sculpture....one of my all time favorite by the way; the winged victory
of samothrace that is. the cover is brass etched with tim holtz book cover stamp and coptic bound with black irish waxed linen. i chose each charms carefully within the symbolic context of <b>ideas</b>...from conception up to realization so that it worth to be the keeper of what would be written in it.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKgccnXhwZiUgieb8hjD5Rvv_Jo2Y65Tj9e9kDdk-9eTmpVgvMQu3jHWLUfQM8F65nixyYLqD8_xxYG17Hbh6LX_RjSrqcs-9rs1MteQ4TC7uQPgq4UjRxMC8q8ugQIReH5eqtew/s400/metal.jpeg" width="400" /></div>
<br />
<br />
so now i have 2 books to write on in 2013. oh, i have a couple more actually. i made one the other night and bought one last week. <br />
<br />
i'm excited about this new found interest and perhaps looking into
making some small installations in the future...meta stuff i mean. <br />

i redesigned and recalculated this typewriter template with swiss precision (ha!). originally it was going to be an assemblage of a poem i wrote. after contemplating other few ideas, i settled on making it a chronicle of my 2013 engagements instead.<br />

it's going to be a studio class starting mid december if not beginning next year. as usual i'm still waiting for some additional supplies to arrive.<br />

would i have done it all over again? for the chance to see a few beagles in a loving homes—anytime.<br />

<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="color: #45818e;">cheshire cat: "the" alice?</span></blockquote>
when i first mentioned to a friend that i was going to sell some scrapbooks to raise money for beagle freedom project, she immediately said: do the alice. she meant the <a href="http://merchantofmarvels.blogspot.com/2011/10/impromptu-tea-party-v2.html" target="_blank">impromptu tea party</a> i did a while back of course. i gushed that i wouldn't be able to repeat it even if i took 7 different kind of chill pills.<br />
<br />
a few days after, i picked a tunnel vision assemblage i made for the impromptu tea party v.1b which i never quite finished yet.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYlX5nnJUq0jnK049w2jmb8M1Sbo9geWtyVSwKI17Hg8Zvru1rcfDqy-GplRTacUG3dvaHWpWAMRo71s83zSE90pDl6U7h5ruQ95KEeX8M3nwRMF6I5ITRlG7lrwImjAyUOSp7ow/s400/IMG_1722.jpg" width="300" /></div>
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="color: #45818e;">alice kingsley: sometimes I believe in as many as six impossible things before breakfast.</span>

before i knew it...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEho4Z-SDp0evTEDqZR4VXXuaAXk27az67uKZzLkTFfx7D0UG1yRtvcRajXepbSRSHxqo67Q4liygRxwVHCond4uRDnwokYkaOOuuqWozbb9K7lQoCJBqbvf4fY5LRsI2U7sEYtNYQ/s400/IMG_1714.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<br />
<br />
i assembled the flying cards pop-up. that wasn't so hard. except for when i visioned the binding, i realized the v.1b had a different measurement from the v.2. so i had to change the base. what started so effortless turned in to a series of literal bone breaking effort; from conditioning the rock hard "soft clay" to crashing the melting pot to pieces.<br />
<br />
i must admit a few times the thought that perhaps i should just have forgotten the projects and donated my own money and asked from a few friends that would say so as well. then i saw those pictures updates on <a href="https://www.facebook.com/BeagleFreedomProject" target="_blank">bfp facebook</a> page and made the pledge to do as planned.<br />
<br />
today, before my very eyes... <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioFX10bldn9-NSFLefFvcmbL0wgnIOpAGRmZ3FucF4aS8Mh6snjbIu7I5nHftk-T68pvDe4okFiCfLF6MPen6cvXBpMoBQPzatMz6S36fhY0JK9sObcYOlnWF7ph4AGOtihi2UCw/s400/IMG_1701.jpg" width="400" /></div>

<br />
<br />
another beagle owner friend offered a generous donation for this book. honestly, i would give it to her as a present had i not made it for the fundraising. i felt bad, but i felt much worse for the lab beagles.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
i didn't see that most of the charms were flipped when i took the photos, but they're all tie-in to the story and some special ordered metal words charms from the story.<br />
<br />
let's see through some of the pages. <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG3vsytYT0cTu6OA6C3j__t5AD4kaUn68khtjhkyJMqqfw1wcR6ioE997tpjKio5OUlUs2zQMQsVGjy8P1eP-yvyn4a5ELdCPMxu1PdtXhiCuZVObWPiRTEWz3oF7paSIh4-2-CA/s400/IMG_1709.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<br />
<br />
this book is designed as a story book all though. the left panel housed the tunnel page and the title page is from tim burton's movie tie-in book.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

some pages are meant to accommodate die cut photos.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
some are meant to hold full page photos, but i left semi-fixed embellishments just in case. this page has an alice with pull in/out tab on the next for some writing.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
there are 24 pages til the end and a tunnel vision box—thick, solid, leather bound inside out interlaced with various fabrics and laces.<br />
<br />
some people inquire if i will make more of the sold album to sell; no but thank you for your interest and thank you for supporting this bfp fundraising.<br />

the 40 beagles they rescued a week before their death row from a lab in spain. first scared and confused then nurtured and fostered until they are adopted into their forever loving homes.<br />
<br />
so...inspired by another lady at <b>beagle freedom project</b> <b><a href="https://www.facebook.com/BeagleFreedomProject?ref=ts">facebook</a></b>, i'm selling my work to raise money for the beagles rescue. in honor of my beagle max, i'm making 6 projects for the fundraising, one each for the 6 wonderful years of his present. all profit made will go directly to <b>beagle freedom project</b>.<br />

<b>(reposting—after i deleted it by mistake)</b><br />
<br />
another workshop completed under the tuition of <a href="http://www.earlymorningthoughts.typepad.com/" target="_blank">nellie wortman</a> at the <a href="http://artfulgatheringfest.ning.com/" target="_blank">artful gathering 2012</a>; it's <b>not your ordinary photo album</b> and i named mine <span style="font-size: medium;"><i>yours truly</i></span>.<br />
<br />
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6IPJvmGQmkMb0a_A0wm0DPCkT4BBbxm3AMlw73FKmXj6ysHRF4a-lWGik9wjhBGY8WjgFZWzB66hRgMaRPQ9k_ImsQkWh8Cj4xtJB9oR5ZzEaM0u4w95r7vaB2lKSbvIE8nb-ow/s640/IMG_5656.jpg" width="432" /></div>
<br />
<br />
as
you can see, it's a mixed media hanging journal/book/album. i've
binded mine with alternate signature of fabric/laces and papers; and
will work on the details in time as i fill it up.<br />
<br />
now that i look
at the pictures, i realized the train is too long; it looks like a
mermaid. a lady in the group said that she could see a few birdies
flying in that tail. i will definitely have to look into that later
this week when i have more smaller birds coming as the few bird forms
that i have didn't work anywhere else i tried. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
i was so absorbed in the cover's heart focal point, i adopted e.e. cummings' <i>i carry your heart with me</i> as my conceptual text. it won over shakespeare's <i>tempest</i> and <i>sonnet 116</i>.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<blockquote style="color: #45818e;">
<i>i carry your heart with me(i carry it in</i><br />
<i>my heart)i am never without it(anywhere</i><br />
<i>i go you go, my dear;and whatever is done</i><br />
<i>by only me is your doing,my darling)</i><br />
<i> i fear</i><br />
<i>no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want</i><br />
<i>no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)</i><br />
<i>and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant</i><br />
<i>and whatever a sun will always sing is you</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>here is the deepest secret nobody knows</i><br />
<i>(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud</i><br />
<i>and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows</i><br />
<i>higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)</i><br />
<i>and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>i carry your heart with me(i carry it in my heart)</i></blockquote>

<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
initially
i placed the heart shaped quilt as the center piece, but decided with
the bird nest instead. i thought of arranging a heart shaped moss, but
didn't go follow through in the final installation.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
beneath
the flower bed there is layer and layers of treasures: lace spine, the
antiqued nails and quilt binding, text of the poem of course. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjc52JTHUb9T9wIdYhjt78eVDE1ixU-0MQCB0F6Fj5EeUZLbx1ukrN248CVom14LSEqi1mT6Q2w3PwRLCvP1KQD-RFgcX00-aU2YNfv-x07fTw5GLVoZrEF1l28OsKVsMUQ74U3DQ/s400/IMG_5646.jpg" width="266" /></div>
<br />
<br />
by
the time i finalized the inside pages, i'm sure there wouldn't be so
white pages and there wouldn't be a riot of materials hanging down and
out.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
it
took me all day to build this rustic birdhouse. originally i made it
longer which was the shape that i wanted, but it was too dominating so i
trimmed it. that was after i abandoned the worn out red and metal
roofed birdhouse.<br />
<br />
an artist friend of mine who also owned a
beagle once told me that his kumon had contributed in the making of his
exhibit series shown in new york. he asked me if max had contributed
anything concrete in my crafts. out of all the people in the world, he
would know if i show him this rustic birdhouse.<br />
<br />

the closure of the book...<br />

<br />
<br />
the
canvas serves as the book's back cover as well as the body of the
installation. unlike the cover, i didn't plan to bees waxed the canvas;
but i did.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
even the back of this piece is adorable.<br />
<br />
i'll
be staying out of needles for a while. i had more pin pricks on this
project alone than in my whole life combined together. that's because i
was pinning and sewing it incorrectly, but now i know (not that i know
it correctly either). colettehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16643824622558380038noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25076679.post-80617183330469982852012-07-26T21:44:00.000+07:002012-07-27T01:21:28.470+07:00antique store ~ sharon's class<br />
another marvelous class of <a href="http://glooshmoo.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">sharon ngoo</a>'s of <a href="http://papermarket.com.sg/" target="_blank">papermarket</a> singapore, i'm fortunate to join last week. this time, we're building an antique store from scratch. when i first saw the real model, i was surprised at how huge the box was. despite of just leaving with only the four walled box, i'm hooked on building and filling it up for the past 2 days.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="304" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisO77S9DSCtaHCMQ2tQrqVp6zydvjUyRAgI8kKtUA5AMqgEpaoLwK1Fzab-JGCIzwGuWM7ZTqL73FyfHh3wtgK1bxlB2NAQsNRGQNP4D8m7X62xtjqsYj2jtDMOlSKwu27hHgHxw/s400/IMG_5539.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<br />
<br />
with some reinforcement placed in the constructions i could basically flip this box upside down without anything falling off .<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="341" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi14S5ZQcGK1a-wnPfGFKYnu8AUvyhhyphenhyphennWBVRMt4pqPhLjY2lY0duJKWsVFK8XX6aqS5D3A3v6M9lb8RICT2eNiFVI6CFJvQGpao78ut9m4qdSwkQg7zletr3BJcbafxqo8pG9ANg/s400/IMG_5546.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
i have a few concepts for structural assemblages which i was going to incorporate here, on a second thought...another time. i'm working on this as is.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPso17JJvYPKP74Ir2sNkYTa6ZCMxrhIYyNfuBbSfoNBc6FR0qC8SeMinTBp51KbJZLwMf0pW2qF0178-yMQgKMjUib7Zjs6uGkSGHYcERiyNr0yaL2iDb93J7JRo0BVd6gYOSlA/s400/IMG_5581.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<br />
<br />
i almost added stuff on the side walls, the roof and the back of the store, but i'll keep the imaginations alive until it needs to be...perhaps more fixtures on one side, a hanging mini album on the other and something flat on the back, a mural? i went ahead to prep it with plaster to create the water and weather damaged wall. anyway if i left it be, it would look more finished.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
here's my lantern. i could go on and on adding fixtures to this shop #7. <br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
from the itouch pictures, i couldn't quite figured the papers on this door. it looked like barb wire to me so i found this hambly and happy with it. i happened to have some left over materials from the <a href="http://merchantofmarvels.blogspot.com/2012/04/some-of-best-conversation-i-had.html" target="_blank">soliloquy</a> class, so i added a pocket of posters and polaroids for later use. part of the reason i stopped working on it in the class was because i thought i was going to change the papers since i already worked on with prima almanac before. i didn't remember that when i got home and got carried away working on it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
the exact peek that i saw on the sneak photo. i fell in love with the green door and the "etched" glass window; and of course the "sound" of an antique shop.<br />

<br />
<br />
voila! the shop is now open!<br />
<br />
it's intentionally crowded. have you seen an antique shop which is not? there are more gadgets i'd like to add on, which i haven't and might or might not. <br />
<br />
i didn't see the crooked roof when i took the picture. that shouldn't be and could be easily fixed.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiRPwDPQ6DSKD_qh-WHMKkREfE3229CF9W84G4K_w5hmPsRN3pIi3VfB2byoYFPKy2GezMlfO10PwYr8SCUefIpd-Z_InTZhHJn0nRJR6D0VZYXehAH3F_UQqcFGmXokuyleZs-A/s400/IMG_5512.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<br />
in my shop, i installed drapery and foyer tabl, <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4gusCknO0glKI1v2P-7AGZytrKtVWifLRTkXVEajYj2Ym0X_TRu9Zw_dIsKoiGsUMs_zHXWDpmwuUf8PWl823LREZfYaU-rv58zIIWnt84T3qYyPiWbZJxfxriiWhUHissz7R_A/s400/IMG_5504.jpg" width="266" /></div>
<br />
<br />
a couple of hanging dress tags and a mini album. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvtHiJDCC7ykhPeZxvP9fk2_PrGQZR5kUDFICXLvkq4TprwYCvaYlxwHMYEgWO6DK8ueromii_pzgMGuQlVWBB9aDsx-Ae_NHddL32QZxxOWXERvtS1UX-ABHLdDHQLy8b55sHlQ/s400/IMG_5598.jpg" width="266" /></div>
<br />
<br />
how brilliant of sharon! the counter also served perfectly as a mini book shelter. i have that supposedly crystal chandelier to secure it, which i can unscrew to take the album out.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="307" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHk3INGwIZ-06uiViYwbMlBTmtDqGAj_Zt4kuahJPetDgagRgqO0ktFkXlP6LUmW4gps-b-86fqOIPiaD-la3SvVGtwqYvFJGV8zh9jBtF0OLF7hPcysW9WqYIVegX9YVZMnCuIg/s400/IMG_5506.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<br />
<br />
this is how the shop looks like when it's open for business. i took a great care of not attaching too many miniature, so they're not over powering the altered fixtures.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg26GylHMswcj6fziOqP34K0ZGuwJdNP7fz3Z2uygUAUFVwGKmvkw8eMWxUIewHBogTAeanQT20Bi55dKlJE2_DaeXLScXK90ya09k9Ne3RNTmm8QC1hHHbRvO9LDp8HhZ2vO-aCg/s400/IMG_5550.jpg" width="266" /></div>
<br />
<br />
next to
that bell counter, i could have put this miniature cash register that i
have and move the dial phone next to it and fill the spot with a
weighing scale, a miniature typewriter...i'm just saying.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdatpEqHHlS1YjT8RYzInLzmZ3DdhuGgNWMB6TUoDmlOlkxgYNI5E22NwayFHG2Iek7P65qe64w7-jHjcLUaA2TvMQp7KjmxjuahcF8OTlARvF_rS3ogynAFG2vjNGw7onmhK5dQ/s400/IMG_5509.jpg" width="266" /></div>
<br />
<br />
it could have been a real miniature pink umbrella (which is corny imho),
but i love that altered umbrella so that's out of the question.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjM1kvAegth76OfOc1PsFdABnFuqosw98Dl87AVqEWsSP07p5Ea4CaIXuMeE232FCwaBvPc4L4NVgrbr__CruRwAWYcvddo23rF3IMe169YBo9klVW4S4_2CCkoRCOeoa8DdYjy7A/s400/IMG_5582.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
delightful counter top isn't it.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuJGX0MuUuu1V5wjyivgUHaY9WQT9qKrLQQMD5SY4F1LL5xck7JzHalBuu4jp5AsER1_5oleTpl08U0kW2ETHLuz3cbkQLgbm3qx3sxzX0V72NhcHLFqvZ_JKzSWrDdz00TJ8g3g/s400/IMG_5500.jpg" width="266" /></div>
<br />
<br />
look at that grand father clock and the cupboard door. i wouldn't think of assembling it myself.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgi13eeINzZVg4f1N4qDxx9ypQGJrM6mKCcQErp_ZVpaNG3qyjh-EJkarPpkmCjTVDpSzMqbbg1UarX4V7gXcvFv7A4gnjT07Wim_kiSdXQvn19kgN9l_BBwwDPFu42Q-27MjG9Dg/s400/IMG_5584.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<br />
<br />
these are shopping boxes and bags. the only one that's removable is that round bag at the back. it opens up to a locket. i saw sharon's <a href="http://g45papers.typepad.com/" target="_blank">graphics 45</a> curiosity cabinet closet in the classroom. she has a round box which i copied here, but i assume hers opens up since it's a bigger tin container.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4AZOP1Dd2vjUOtgA5igGcmXCH1h0fQg-Yq0pyurFbcUdiZKACWV5BLHkkbK17nfIp2qU89F3NII-MQEgPtL80bvoSAe70vc-KCmxPFg_Td4lNbruJQe3dD5LjDs5Qs7qOkPF4dg/s400/IMG_5515.jpg" width="266" /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
the cupboard stored another mini booklet. it's not visible on the photos but i have the same white apothecaries silhouette, hambly of course, behind the counter's shelves. i'm fond of what barely there details serve. functionally, they binds the objects and adds depth/texture; emotionally, they left footprints of more to the story; aesthetically, they gives the contentment of creating a quality piece.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZE8s3hKFt8ADYbMu7iy3Jt_rTZ13bNOiLAInFvE3bKKvLOm5qnSB35mmADJ4uss9zkps0_SOexn7EdLarbVPEPiJXf-G4K_GKS5Rq3uwYk4ctoqcvMdzzi4Bqtr2yFYhUj7oMgw/s400/IMG_5524.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<br />
<br />
so, all in all i have 4 mini books in this shop. unless otherwise i decide to add more when i fill them up,<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2Nkh6AmdBQuhnslUWkhDM4M61BkXbK2c0wJ-DTr0qP25i9BuP1dNoS9NKfyTgMaDO_Xqu-Jo5Xp4VyxIal5lvhZeZ3gzTOGAiOVtuwqyCR2AsGslG5fgfAQ220Ggd8j6JL-zX1Q/s400/IMG_5594.jpg" width="266" /></div>
<br />
<br />
and 2 hang tags. those are probably the only detachable objects in my shop. oh...and the umbrella of course and the front door insertions.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-Oe_zG5GtIfo3dGiRw_vIVDMA8pBq_KK1StyOGr3qt8qggNoBVEDSZ3f2FKUeyCMKOQNjK-KV9PsbIBrxkWvCxqxGEEvdOMXTcMhntQ3vFtFt_T9XdItwRhY7jRsDDw-KmLH3YQ/s400/IMG_5592.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<br />
<br />
i'm not a fan of ring binding, so i tied a few scraps of leftover papers in various sizes and assembled this book real quick;<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOTCdi-gPzhEKxWtMrJjLGT7dIjevNoboqMTBcRFQI9INc_ai0Ypxv4PH3WQYjI7I-htubMdGBP22bbzMPjeOZrHjo8B3v6uGrEtnZm7h1Gkk22cY4KmPDdIUaB-juAJ3cyZVC_A/s400/IMG_5566.jpg" width="266" /></div>
<br />
<br />
attached danglings on the hanging threads,<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBHcXoEJps2o9ZyFUIKaxvA6gUPkYa-T2kwBJtWm1omDJZn88hnAY2bjw_y0fsiWxvOtRfp6CAgKWQWghWNJFNGpp0oEKIMKgv5QT7eK5Um_W-OztEdLFdfeq38rZqza76d4UEnw/s200/IMG_5560.jpg" width="133" /> <img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJxgLhFNZbLDLZY-DHRrZhCVRkR_h10fZYCh9fvGK0KhTmXMSZraEidQ6iEdpPq7Dsmwrj_ddHpMpgimdPJwgwinqDDWhSqs1ZyZHkMJgBDANTl6T7dhUD-8sSJ1WxyOqD-pUMig/s200/IMG_5561.jpg" width="132" /> <img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkPi-_ku9qZyPW7_oWY7TJ1K8wZ2qSNRNBnqU8rKY2ILG-QEYc-nKgwWQbG_XH26rFPsCADTQo-VILEgPfbUQeZnLTbHk0Olf1DeXfrLN-IzyuHMGoaUtJkJFhzAZYMie0QXwmJw/s200/IMG_5564.jpg" width="131" /></div>
<br />
<br />
and flips and flaps...the usual.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfLIacojqAm1RSqZSedKBDI9oRPm1FvHeHpBriLw1qVkBeD0T_eNFXbGFQ0r8KcVi3dmdEG1alPBl6oDggNwjCdc56RS7N6yCwijeaaK5WnC5AW1-mmTJIKxsctP8GMaNMhZolcw/s320/IMG_5552.jpg" width="212" /> <img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitGuHgSZgJh2wnKT9t5FjpJDluDtvl0PloZcYKwN4H7rOI3N55ExduRlUrocjPIYWUbQJFsJFMBWFWcS1GcWU8hEB926PdyXXoDsC80lpP5Hpej7JNzg5BY2yX6Uem-NXu2pKQ-g/s320/IMG_5555.jpg" width="212" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
on the hanging mini, the bottle is actually the spine of the booklet.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
thus is my antique shop. this might be the end of it or i might build some more attachments later. hope everyone enjoy the tour. now, i'm off to do some sewing and hammering on my <b>not ordinary photo album</b>.<br />

i stumbled upon <a href="http://www.earlymorningthoughts.typepad.com/" target="_blank">nellie wortman</a>'s <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/nelliewortman?ref=pr_faveshops" target="_blank">etsy</a> and saw a kit she marked to purchase only if we're joining the online workshop.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
a few clicks after, she brought me to the <a href="http://artfulgatheringfest.ning.com/" target="_blank">artful gathering</a>. the things i find when i'm not looking; it's exactly what i'm looking for.<br />
<br />
without further ado, i registered. i wasn't quite up to soldering yet, so i signed up both of nellie's classes. since my armory of vintage fabrics is inadequate and i'm not all set to cut up tattered clothes, so i checked out the kits as well.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkI7YvFN1SSkPEe89Wbb-fHXoQKgy9hhg4VvpySNeg7v4qTmQ4JGfbwXTLMQgpa3eJ2olGzB_5snH9uf0bqaudw1259iC_f6hNfauX3NvkOyCO3IqkZAu55rPSdkRoX8xBk3c7vw/s640/IMG_5453.jpg" width="425" /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
i was in the middle of assembling a christmas album when i received the kit. guess what...goodbye papers and hello fabrics; and new tool to draw with...sewing machine. of course i will eventually buy one of those savvy jenome, once i decided which one i need. for this project, i managed to use a beat up portable machine.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3vjhIfRC1evCtQQJhYSwET3n4jy3EfmsFGQRc00BLRKsX3trAE2cKslGlOZ9ArtI4Ew2S6mIho1eDi9PrqAekivQIj4skCmRRj0UYesCEFNyCgd70XUjeZxOshdaf57iluJhvYA/s640/IMG_5435.jpg" width="425" /></div>
<br />
<br />
not a bad free motion sewing upon layers of layered fabric and some hand stitching for someone who's clueless about sewing. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcZgAFVI_z3bM8kUGBB1BJJv8FJqiOz6RevjIUbY4HOksoPfcSv3ZrRC20O2gOGtZZQlMrxpb48y0Aqob7zGHyK966oKRu-bHr_r1v6a5OGpNSppktL0VjrQfv6Am9G5wTkWGeBQ/s1600/IMG_5466.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcZgAFVI_z3bM8kUGBB1BJJv8FJqiOz6RevjIUbY4HOksoPfcSv3ZrRC20O2gOGtZZQlMrxpb48y0Aqob7zGHyK966oKRu-bHr_r1v6a5OGpNSppktL0VjrQfv6Am9G5wTkWGeBQ/s640/IMG_5466.jpg" width="425" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
the train on the spine was what first caught my eyes on this project.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiyGRJkiC5V5R9sIhqKZ-6Ef3Ez5hur9uln2RbUBCWRyLNUQbwB8qduVN9-vBKWaNdL9mwjzosA_KZjCLCDrkmVxYBB_CEp4EsMZOC2cCQZzFpmnfSRjA2LH2Vu6MMBy91YD8cQQ/s1600/IMG_5468.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiyGRJkiC5V5R9sIhqKZ-6Ef3Ez5hur9uln2RbUBCWRyLNUQbwB8qduVN9-vBKWaNdL9mwjzosA_KZjCLCDrkmVxYBB_CEp4EsMZOC2cCQZzFpmnfSRjA2LH2Vu6MMBy91YD8cQQ/s400/IMG_5468.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
added a pen pocket on the sleeve and a few finishing touch to the inside. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
although it's not quite visible but the stitching went through the back, so a focal point is added just enough for the curious to peek.details like this made a piece remarkable. after all, it's a handmade work.<br />
<br />

<br />
having never sat on a sewing machine for more than 5 minutes, i was quite surprised at how fast i did this project. other than a couple of pin pricks and a few minutes to read the machine's visual manual, i managed to finish everything in one sitting. i was too excited, i didn't think of practicing on another scrap of fabric first.<br />
<br />
suddenly, i lost interest in my new <a href="http://www.octoberafternoon.com/line.php?line=CW" target="_blank">cakewalk</a> stash. a collection i've been waiting for and was ready craft into a tier cake album.<br />
<br />
looks like a busy crafty weeks ahead. a two days <b>tropical travelogue</b> workshop this weekend and a possible two days catch up for a couple sisters who couldn't make it due to the loss of their grandmother. since i'm going to singapore next week, i signed for <a href="http://glooshmoo.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">sharon</a>'s <b>antique store</b> class. by the time i'm back, nellie's <b>not your ordinary photo album</b> is starting. on top of that i have a couple of projects from <a href="http://michaeldemeng.com/" target="_blank">michael</a>'s workshop that i have yet to build once my supplies shipment arrived. it's going to be my first year since i got my beagle max that i could make an ied holiday trip. i have michael's <b>alchemist construction</b> starting right in the middle of that trip. now that i think of it, i might skip that trip for a super crafty and trafficless week.<br />

<br />
<br />
i didn't know prior to the class that the inside is even worked out and it's a "wow" for me.<br />
<br />
without ado i decided that this gorgeous metal case would house the story of my mother and her siblings growing up. considered the <b>silent generation</b>, despite the current definition; i would say that those days, things were so good at home that all the other problems in the world seemed so far away and they didn't care. by jove, they lived life to the fullest in a jolly time on the good earth.<br />
<br />
for my mother's birthday a couple of years ago, her best friend recorded more than 50 years of their friendship. it has a huge section of their growing up highlights from the day they met complete with interviews from friends and family on the street; photos, music, words. a treasure! i'm trying to emulate that here, so i will take my time with the journaling. the story started when my grandparents moved to indonesia during the great depression until the days when some moved back west.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" multilinks-noscroll="true" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhg1SECezztYgMnX9ynRTJJDpwepLGb1akWmgn2SzZFG6d8aadmByOSdFoVTjgV9ff7mJ0STEvBPvraKaFY5uiGoN4j4FWyJsP3hN-Edc8EKpN24H3L4HNKOC9A8Xp7YS1q_dKz7w/s400/IMG_5399.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<br />
<br />
the left panel inside panel housed 2 accordion envelope albums. hither
and thither i added more insertions so i can add writings spaces and
photos. one i particularly love was the older siblings posing on an
antique car hood with their friends; and some family members watching my
aunt and uncle swaggered the boogie woogie. <br />
<br />
i wish i was born in 1940's so i would experience life in the <b>fabulous 50's</b>, grooving the 60's and 70's, the awesome 80's (even that i—like most of my kind—looked like a dork then), even the 90's—don't care much after that. in that case, i would just missed the renaissance and the roaring 20's as my favorite eras. i will save my endless conviction aside and let some of you indulge in your own memories and stories; or we could talk about it over lunch some time.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" multilinks-noscroll="true" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
pam...param...pam pam param pam pam...look who's snooping the fabulous 50's too. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" multilinks-noscroll="true" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
actually the hollow top compartment was just perfect to house stack of vintage pictures which of course i wouldn't cut or paste anywhere. not just yet.<br />
<br />
coming from such a huge family paternally and maternally, i'm not yet
and perhaps would never reach the stage where i would feel comfortable
crafting original vintage photos; i redeveloped old photos instead of
using the original. years ago i scrapped my childhood album and
abandoned it halfway. recently i looked into continuing but found it
lacking cohesion. i would have to do some thinking and research of how i
would save these old pictures because they were all stuck on non acid
free surroundings and many has serious foxing and time damaged. <br />
<br />
anyways....<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" multilinks-noscroll="true" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuMJi5scJijOxrAnVspuqzxwoPV92411xOIrtGavTk3-g16gN9aU4qtL2pGnfaSgEUMOW2KLPEuAjhUFQvBCDNBsc4GNONgWfGEEMbjwU-GuVvQplAlvpo0jTM2YELDoTMkscsEw/s640/IMG_5410.jpg" width="424" /></div>
<br />
<br />
with no particular reason besides the extra papers from the class, i added a mini album.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" multilinks-noscroll="true" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="340" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNSStlROCdc-SDfEONNWdJkpMKxBxPNsCsFe2rjve5KfefFL4ZwdexXJe4XCe30TGJAc-6IcDXGro4w1rHtkBdLA7YHxEZlCFMLQqmU5aifQstcQBauuOYxLM-Ya4-Zv120ay7zw/s400/IMG_5408.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<br />
<br />
this project will sit on my study table at home for a long time so i can take my time writing in it wholeheartedly. in my words; it will be subjectively written based on my faint memories and the stories i heard my whole life.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" multilinks-noscroll="true" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
this mini mini album covers more room for everyone, that would be my aunt,uncles and mother mostly. oh they were quite a scene in town back then that not only my father but his uncle also wooed the eldest sister, then the second and finally married the third—a few years after his aunt was taken in hand my by mother's uncle. complicated? imagine the life after...when one has 16 paternal grands, the youngest being the father's junior and 10 maternal siblings. enough!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" multilinks-noscroll="true" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
love...love...love...everything about this project. i'm glad i made it to the class.<br />
<br />

<br />
an even minier pull out accordion at the back...just because.<br />
<br />
i've spent many hours scanning, cutting, pasting photos, still need more quality time on the writings and <i>coup de grâce. </i><i><br /></i><br />

<br />
in the year 2000ish i came across a list—<b>collector’s choice of rare books for collecting</b>, which then led me to the 100 best books lists by <b>modern library</b>, readers and the rivals. it was my ambition then to not only collect, but also read every single
title on the <b>ibca</b> list. i thought i did quite well for the next couple of
years, until i got distracted by other lists, amazon, catholicism, and
of course harry potter, chic-lit, crafts, odd and ends. then other
preoccupation such as passion, obsession, compassion rudely interrupted,
and books are completely abandoned in piles, carts and lists.<br />
<br />
i haven't read a single book in the past few years, but there was time when i read 4,000 pages of literature in a week and filled up a whole blank journal books with notes and conceptions. it's a huge accomplishment considering my short concentration span (and don't let me start theorizing it).<br />

i usually start with the inside spreads when i'm building a book/album. as i always said, the cover will build up on it's own. here i am starting from the cover. perhaps tonight i'll go pick some brain lint and start a couple of pages.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSDGcMEUuTE20lezd1M8CJNy55QSGW8TFtgry0gtBXMBkmoSCqgGlMatYqWFwzIjxe0aTLOOD-na4pwCiT3P3lOa2P2fxnovoaa0Go3jkiIdGEajb0FCTccpg5WPsSmrY0zTrQ4w/s400/IMG_5170.jpg" width="266" /></div>
<br />
<br />
some of the best conversation i had, happened in my mind. don't everybody's? a sharp-minded friend of mine finds it amusing that i speak it out in monologue...impromptu train of thoughts, just like that and i can hardly repeat them. if i try to, slowly, it will sound fake, rehearsed and...never as sharp.<br />
<br />
such is the making of this book. i just gather some scraps and strips of trims, lace, ribbons, whatever is in the bucket and stick them on.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkWWXxywBk8ym0x5ZFDqBjOUbXfgewDJALFK4H-V_fk9gbvqAOGqarXaiMO-_Hh4sV6usXXz4mcxh1Cih0Ko6OnxvCRKRqy1wu30ZRCZxRg0EBVmX2B71IhGIW7mvnjea7QSJ3gw/s400/IMG_5174.jpg" width="266" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
i will use it to jot down my fragment of thoughts...<br />
<br />
<i>i don't watch or read news<br />
it's too up-to-the-minute to merit attention<br />
too "post hoc, ergo propter hoc"-ish <br />
(english: after it, therefore because after it)<br />
—which is hardly ever the case<br />
or perhaps think the conflicts are too fabricated by those who don't actually understand (myself included) the issues<br />
simply not quite interested, might be the case as well<br />
(i must say i do on the occasions interrupting my little cocoon)<br />
<br />
my dreams are adventurous and in colors, in between midnight black and midnight blue to be exact<br />
<br />
anything after the year 1996 are too futuristic</i><br />
<i><br />
by curse of nature lacking some mystical qualities, i have a severe navigational idiocy<br />
(i should someday decide if it's due to some genes deficiency in ability to have the mentioned focus span instead)</i><br />
<br />
<i>talk no more, talk no more<br />
i'd rather listen to your goldfish<br />
<br />
i know some big words too...marmalade, aromatherapy, hermes<br />
<br />
i don't drink<br />
i'm too busy translating the asyndeton and aposiopesis of the drunk<br />
to the drunk wannabe</i><br />
<i><br />
if i'm so consistent,<br />
i'd still be wearing a diaper<br />
<br />
life is to live and to love,<br />
i'm breathing it in the best i can <br />
(well, almost...that's the plan at least)<br />
<br />
i'm trying to rebuild myself<br />
but i lost the blueprint of my frontal lobe<br />
<br />
a friend defines me as a professional bum<br />
because i master the art of bumming around<br />
like no other<br />
(i can be ad hominem too)<br />
he's jay gatsby without the flair</i><br />
<i> </i> <br />
<i>after moses parted the red sea,<br />
nothing can shock me anymore<br />
<br />
refusing to think is pure evil<br />
<br />
i do whatever my heart desires <br />
without worrying too much of the label attached to it<br />
<br />
i'm captivated<br />
by the native american myths, legends and lores<br />
<br />
watching austin power<br />
is like staring at a cow for 45 minutes <br />
(although i've tried neither)<br />
<br />
hypothesis of why i'm like this:<br />
#1 a flower pot fell on my head which left me<br />
with no recollection whatsoever<br />
i'm left with only notions,<br />
no memories of any previous occurrence<br />
#2 abstract defraged my frontal lobe,<br />
the day i let my friend have half a day<br />
trying to paint the color of my mind<br />
#3 freud and his dramas!<br />
blah blah blah of such magnitude<br />
clutter the conversation between<br />
my left and right brain hemisphere<br />
#4 a+ thesis<br />
the day i finally read the first paragraph of<br />
the textbook years later<br />
i second guess priority of reality<br />
<br />
i'm rarely confrontational outside my head<br />
but sometimes my mind has a big mouth<br />
<br />
recedite liberal hippies<br />
we conservatives are taking over<br />
<br />
tragic has its moments<br />
<br />
i insist, k armstrong is a carrier as destructive as of that enola gay <br />
and her magnitude of pathological fallacies are astronomical<br />
<br />
i retired because it seems romantic at the time<br />
besides, i'm in between jobs<br />
(hey, even budha sat under the bodhi tree for 40 years to get enlightened)</i><br />
<br />
something like that, if not.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBUpw-9BGvBrMWsNCebgWflfxCpSpnjjiSjKy3LykxAQwvb7ypTkvd05el_gwHGS2tHbGYKpbhLvjIJGX7NWnSUBqmwMPH_NLJkzJ_-X8kG_nHfaV4QPCJnVIZTmq1SXCQfZSyEw/s400/IMG_5135.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<br />
<br />
the garter belt like book band was rather distracting, so i took it off. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDF2D3-vGk3BNCXo3BpAh5eoILGfTL1woXD752dwH058Q-waUaMhds1D4J4NHECr4Mh521JVOMxaKSo5AuosLRYKnSSu4mkir8uFTeT0g95qfoTfwo3-XZcSyo5yTpjWUHHdCOEw/s400/IMG_5122.jpg" width="265" /></div>
<br />
<br />
took quite an effort and a couple nicks to batter up the spine. a lady in my workshop saw me doing it and asked why was it all torn up and if i was doing it on purpose. the binding was an all day job. well...a couple considering i disbanded the first which was too flashy. this one is much more pleasing to my eyes.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

i kind of showed her a picture of it and hinted it's coming her way. she was thrilled. i might do something similar for myself.<br />

just when i'm blogging this, i'm told that <b>graphics 45</b> announced on their <a href="http://g45papers.typepad.com/graphic45/2012/02/friday-feb-17th-blog-kraft-reflections.html" target="_blank">blog</a> that they have chosen my <a href="http://draft.blogger.com/goog_1236810963" target="_blank"></a><a href="http://merchantofmarvels.blogspot.com/2011/10/impromptu-tea-party-v2.html" target="_blank">impromptu tea party v.2</a> (still haven't quite finished with the 1st) as their r.a.k winner chosen from their <a href="http://graphic45.ning.com/" target="_blank">ning</a> gallery. wow, this comes as a surprise as i didn't know anything about it. <br />

<br />
apparently <a href="http://g45papers.com/" target="_blank">graphics 45</a> is running r.a.k. (it's random acts of kindness, in case...). if i'm reading them correctly, last week was a r.a.k. week. they have chosen random people who have contributed to their galleries to win some prizes. for the <a href="http://g45papers.typepad.com/graphic45/2012/02/random-crafts-of-kindness-challenge-announced-.html" target="_blank">month of february</a> they're running r.a.k. challenges which they call random crafts of kindness in their facebook page.<br />
<br />
just yesterday in my <a href="http://merchantofmarvels.blogspot.com/2011/12/joy-to-worldand.html" target="_blank">tropical travelogue~hybrid camera</a> workshop i was just saying how amazing <b>graphics 45</b> creations are. i can't be more honored and thankful.<br />

<br />
i was watching a crappy dvd i do not recall the title nor care to find out and landed on an interesting piece of information. without further ado...i signed <a href="http://www.wix.com/demeng/michael-demeng" target="_blank">demeng</a>'s artlab #3 workshop: <a href="http://michaeldemeng.typepad.com/crusted_crumpled_and_crac/" target="_blank">crusted, crumbled, cracked</a>. <br />

modernism has its pitfalls. it comes with ayn rand and karen
armstrong whose philosophy i could argue endlessly; pollution and
internet. i remember nights before modernism blatantly robbed my
favorite nocturnal pastime; watching the constellations in the sky and
counting the stars, musing. nowadays, i do after midnight online
shopping. in one of my shopping spree excursion, i came across a <a href="http://www.beadaholique.com/t-ba-project-N541.aspx" target="_blank">barbed wired heart necklace</a>. it reminded me of the <i>sacred heart of jesus</i>;
which then reminded me of the bronze sacred heart and immaculate heart
which i wait-listed and bought a while back. i checked a few things so i
can ensemble them into a scapular. right before checking out, i threw
in the black swarovski wild heart pendant; the beauty of online
shopping...everything is just a few clicks away.<br />
<br />
last night while waiting for lethargy to kick in and <i>pilgrim's progress</i>
wouldn't register, i ensembled the black wild heart. i should have
grabbed the wire as well, because the one i have turns out rather
stiff. it took me a few tries, well many actually, before i settled on
the setting temporarily. i will fix it when i see the right wire, 2
gauge down i think.<br />
<br />
anyway, like anyone cares of all that...here is my <b>wild sacred heart </b>laid on<b> </b><i>pilgrim's progress</i>. <br />
<br />

<span style="font-size: large;">merry christmas!</span> i had our traditional christmas eve festive; family, santa, presents, carols, church and all with the clan. haven't had the chance to look at the pictures though.<br />
<br />
before i pack up for the holiday trip (which is tomorrow), i'd like to present my most likely be first 2012 workshop.<br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">tropical travelogue</span>...of course!—growing up being an island girl myself— shaped after my g12 camera. well, sort of!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" multilinks-noscroll="true" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="200" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7sz9_Gyn9FQ/TvgYxB5sC6I/AAAAAAAABJk/nHLaHgN3PkE/s400/IMG_4890.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<br />
i noticed on my last trip to the island that the brass window handles in
the bedroom had turned patina. as a matter of fact, anything metal
exposed that close to the open sea would oxidized sooner than later. so that's that...patina or rust.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" multilinks-noscroll="true" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="200" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-b13azZTOqA0/TvgY3yesdTI/AAAAAAAABJs/S28wd2vzBJk/s400/IMG_4898.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<br />
almost, but noticeably not quite done, still waiting a few stuff to come in. rather bulky i must say.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" multilinks-noscroll="true" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="200" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-o2v_uBy6lJ4/TvgYpLaU8-I/AAAAAAAABJc/UpfMN2G-xoQ/s400/IMG_4931.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<br />
my sea and sandy beach page.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" multilinks-noscroll="true" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="200" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wSgda8UwXC0/TvgZEscRVuI/AAAAAAAABJ8/2dbQOrhNAzE/s400/IMG_4911.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<br />
this highly dynamic album is packed with folds, pockets, pull outs...<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" multilinks-noscroll="true" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="200" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-l3t6__Fn4vU/TvgY91OYIFI/AAAAAAAABJ0/fCoegsILOug/s400/IMG_4904.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<br />
pop ups...<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" multilinks-noscroll="true" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="200" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SadF6e-LZ_k/TvgZKALKMGI/AAAAAAAABKE/mAnTCUX-yig/s400/IMG_4916.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<br />
flips, flaps...<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" multilinks-noscroll="true" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="200" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xyHDmTqG2LE/TvgZRJH4JxI/AAAAAAAABKM/GnkkUiyzkXE/s400/IMG_4929.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<br />
and the significant swivel screen! i upgraded my g11 to g12 just for this feature, so it's a must in here.<br />
<br />
so they say, jewel comes in little package. well...in this case, not so little. i can promise you, this is a hybrid scrapbook like no others. <b> warning ahead: compulsory meticulous efforts</b>. the almighty didn't create water-sand and flora-fauna at the same day...lest i—thus this is a <b>2 days workshop </b>of cutting, pasting, kneading, baking, smearing, painting, scraping.<br />
