i wish i have more than 1 to give. this time it goes to anita abdulkadir. i thank everyone for the sweet commendations. in the near future when i figured how or someone shows me how, i hope to post some tutorials.

just when i'm blogging this, i'm told that graphics 45 announced on their blog that they have chosen my impromptu tea party v.2 (still haven't quite finished with the 1st) as their r.a.k winner chosen from their ning gallery. wow, this comes as a surprise as i didn't know anything about it.

apparently graphics 45 is running r.a.k. (it's random acts of kindness, in case...). if i'm reading them correctly, last week was a r.a.k. week. they have chosen random people who have contributed to their galleries to win some prizes. for the month of february they're running r.a.k. challenges which they call random crafts of kindness in their facebook page.

just yesterday in my tropical travelogue~hybrid camera workshop i was just saying how amazing graphics 45 creations are. i can't be more honored and thankful.

in the spirit of rooting for the spaniard rafael nadal on australian open, i pledged to give away a mini book for his win. he fought an epic battle like only the one man spanish armada could. the match ended on the count when the momentum wasn't on his favor. in his honor, we—his die heart devotee—joined him in taking it as the best of sport could. rafa will get the next one and the many more to come, vamos!

october afternoon has never failed my fondness. there's something about its constancy retro, archetypal honesty, conventional everyday life which brings back childhood happiness at its utmost. if i were to describe it in 2 words, it "genuinely clicks".

a couple of things get me excited tonight. i perfected my 5 minutes penne with crustacean in pink sauce which i've been cooking and eating for dinner the past 3 nights. creamy pasta is my delicacy indulgence given that i tried giving up consuming mammals. that would be since the new year minus the night i accidentally swallowed a slice of black pepper beef last week.

i was watching a crappy dvd i do not recall the title nor care to find out and landed on an interesting piece of information. without further ado...i signed demeng's artlab #3 workshop: crusted, crumbled, cracked.

wild sacred heart

modernism has its pitfalls. it comes with ayn rand and karen armstrong whose philosophy i could argue endlessly; pollution and internet. i remember nights before modernism blatantly robbed my favorite nocturnal pastime; watching the constellations in the sky and counting the stars, musing. nowadays, i do after midnight online shopping. in one of my shopping spree excursion, i came across a barbed wired heart necklace. it reminded me of the sacred heart of jesus; which then reminded me of the bronze sacred heart and immaculate heart which i wait-listed and bought a while back. i checked a few things so i can ensemble them into a scapular. right before checking out, i threw in the black swarovski wild heart pendant; the beauty of online shopping...everything is just a few clicks away.

last night while waiting for lethargy to kick in and pilgrim's progress wouldn't register, i ensembled the black wild heart. i should have grabbed the wire as well, because the one i have turns out rather stiff. it took me a few tries, well many actually, before i settled on the setting temporarily. i will fix it when i see the right wire, 2 gauge down i think.

anyway, like anyone cares of all that...here is my wild sacred heart laid on pilgrim's progress.

merry christmas! i had our traditional christmas eve festive; family, santa, presents, carols, church and all with the clan. haven't had the chance to look at the pictures though.

before i pack up for the holiday trip (which is tomorrow), i'd like to present my most likely be first 2012 workshop.

tropical travelogue...of course!—growing up being an island girl myself— shaped after my g12 camera. well, sort of!

i noticed on my last trip to the island that the brass window handles in the bedroom had turned patina. as a matter of fact, anything metal exposed that close to the open sea would oxidized sooner than later. so that's that...patina or rust.

almost, but noticeably not quite done, still waiting a few stuff to come in. rather bulky i must say.

and the significant swivel screen! i upgraded my g11 to g12 just for this feature, so it's a must in here.

so they say, jewel comes in little package. well...in this case, not so little. i can promise you, this is a hybrid scrapbook like no others. warning ahead: compulsory meticulous efforts. the almighty didn't create water-sand and flora-fauna at the same day...lest i—thus this is a 2 days workshop of cutting, pasting, kneading, baking, smearing, painting, scraping.

i'll finish up after the holiday; details are most likely on my facebook by the 1st week of 2012.

upon a visit to a friend's house, we decided to play dress up... wonderlanding major style; impromptu without much thinking and preparation, picking up what's in the closet.

here's the second version i made. the first—more fun, less pages—is almost but never quite done yet.

this tome has 18 signatures 64 pages all in all. the spine is about 4" thick. it's a solid binding.

the moment i saw funhouse collection from g.c.d. studios, one certainty came to mind: a circular tent carousel album...finally.

as it turns out, hiding a 3 inch spine was effortless.

grace of msi asked if i would do a class for surabaya and agreed to bring in funhouse as one of the projects, might as well.

i had to borrow moira's pictures for the class sample album. my version has a more ambitious title; the greatest show on earth. it's photoless completed. sitting nicely waiting for me to scan old pictures from 8 different albums piling on my study floor.

life in toronto

when i bought the whole set of webster's pages wonderfall collection with a friend last year, i told her we were going to do a 6" x 12" album. i was sure then that i was going to do a four seasons theme books. time passed...the stash wasn't forgotten, just put aside.

a few weeks ago, i saw my lovely niece's photo album on facebook. she called it life in toronto. immediately, i snatched a few pictures from the album and sent for my wonderfall stash. i knew what i wanted to do that night; the big bang theory season 3 and life in toronto.

the sign board is still missing a couple of elements, still on their way. the roof—the medusa roof—is rather overdone for my liking, but what's done is done.

tara is coming home next week for a short summer break and i was going to surprised her with the gift. i ended up telling her about this when i asked her for the better quality images. last week i saw she made a scrap page version of life in toronto.

yeeees...it's a gazebo explotion box!

i figured that the inside wall should be able to stand alone.

in the beginning i placed a standing easel with a canvas in the middle. beautiful; but has nothing to do with tara. then i thought of a piano; nothing to do with her life in toronto. i ordered a gazebo with a switchable lamp post from ebay; a tad too bulky.

i finally settled with the fountain of happiness...ha!

i'll keep it dear to my heart until her safe return.

i was asking myself, how many cities are here in indonesia. no clue! must be a lot. reminiscence from primary school geography blind memorizing, indonesia has 13,677 islands. a quick googling says today's numbering between 17,480 to 17,508. only about 500 cities are listed. hmmm.... anyone? i'll send a generous gift for a more or less accurate number.

what a shame that i can count with barely 2 hands of the cities i've been around the country. oddly, i've been to more islands around than cities around the archipelago. thanks to the jakarta bay's thousand islands—which in reality i'm sure give and take, including coral islands during low tides, there's only hundred or so. stranded, exploration, leisure, studies, dragged to, and all; quite surely i've been to at least 20 of them. a couple favorites no longer exist.

anyways.... all that and back to what i was going to say before my rambling. i'm going to surabaya, for the first time of course, with a couple of classes.

more to show when i'm back, of course. i kept saying that to myself, i'll spend a good week taking pictures of the recent stuff i've done and finish a few more i've started. even when we're busy living, 24 hours including sleepless night is still all we have. so it's all down to managing time and juggling priorities. i know that theory...see if i can take less time being so retired.

anthology of scrap

the bright colored papers i was trying to work on during the weekend gave me a nauseating headache. i packed up the set and decided to completely abandon the project. after a couple of extra strength rapid release tylenols, i started a new project and worked on this journal. it was fashioned after lia's anthropologie's album which she did in sharon's class and i couldn't make.

reveled in the process with the "help" of my scrap sidekick—max, we finished it in one sitting...almost.

i call mine anthology of scrap and i'm going to record some of my scrapping thumbnails, experiments, ideas...you know...scrap and crap. i will add photos on the filmstrip later.

when i sort out trinkets as such, i do not just pick what goes. every item is relevantly and significantly symbolize the concept, design and purpose ...something like that.

supplies are mostly 7 gypsies and tim holtz, plus various trinkets i collected.

this journal is a treasure in the making until it's filled up.

enchanted garden

simply said, enchanted garden is an album i created for a class at my scrapbook ideas.

i must say, msi had provided a very generous kit of k & company susan winget botanical collection, prima flowers, hambly screen, tim holtz embellishments, ranger's crackle paint and canvas, other necessary supplies in creating this album.

k & company was my first love in scrapbooking and now i do remember why...the vast elements in every collection.

the idea of this project was of course to create an enchanted garden within an album. so i use layers and layers of papers and embellishments...should be more than 100 of them.

we used tim holtz' knob and leather to lock and ranger canvas to bind the album and i adored this flower flap on the opening.

now, let me entice you through my garden of joy....

perhaps one couldn't really tell, but we layered around 20 pieces of flowers, butterflies and dragonflies here.

using flower stem wire, i hand-shaped the writing in the manner of my script. the opening title was rather tough because of the wire thickness, but the rest was easy.

i'm changing the photos on this page.

i already had a couple of similar album from my memory lane ensemble, but as soon as i finished this enchanted garden i wanted another one. this is a type of album that will not have the same look when you recreate it with a different set of stash. in fact several ladies who already finished it said the same thing. today, lia showed me the almost finished 4th album she had in this binding. together we had created many projects and she thought this was the best album ever. hahaa... until our next? :p

there are layers of flowers and dragonflies on the shabby wooden wall. after the class, i added a few trinkets from prima and tim holtz on this fence.

i forgot to take a top view of this album where i also built the shabby wooden wall on the inside spine and fully embellished it because we can actually see it when the album is opened.

the class was a full-house and in all the photos everyone was transfixed in doing the project from start to finish, which could only meant good that they were so into creating their own enchanted garden, no? :)

i hope these ladies adore their albums as i do.

anita and mieke couldn't make the class so i happily worked with them today with the kit they got. they managed to finished theirs identically to mine besides the pictures. alas as usual we forgot to take pictures! i believe they will be uploading theirs soon.

mieke even showed me the pristine way to wrap paper corners over chipboard.

i'm very happy with how this project turned out and i'm thanking ina and grace of msi for making it happened and of course all the ladies who came.

it's always interesting to see the cloning of a class project. now, to anyone who finished her album and leave her link on this post, i will send each one a gift.

friends ep. 81 ~ sharon's tv class

i checked out laine's classes because i was going to singapore last month. saw this lovely tv class by sharon. so i went with my friend christine. we forgot to take photos together though.

i'm developing the photos tomorrow. they're humorous photos of me and 2 of my old friends, chili and nala visit to jogja. the 3 of used to work together and a couple of years ago we reconnected after losing touch for many years. just like that we decided there and then to visit their old friend kentu, who happened to be my new friend then, suwage. it was also the grand opening of roommate—a curator house, so there were also some other friends in the trip. but the 3 of us flew and stuck together. it was such a fun and memorable trip.

oo...now that i see it, i forgot to stick my text sticker. also, i forgot to take pictures of the sides which are pretty impressive and well thought.

sharon said she would add more trinkets, so i put in a few of tim's and prima. i also added the stands. there will be more little cut out photos in each compartments.

this is my favorite compartment, look at the bobbin and bulb. now i want to do the plasma version. :)

it was a cloudy day and i took these pictures inside my workshop, turned out that we can't really see the embossed letter effect which i thought was brilliant. check out sharon's reality tv.

memory lane ensemble

i've been working on a few projects simultaneously. one in particular since last year, is an ensemble of my childhood days. it's an album which housed several other albums within.

when the fly a kite collection came out, i was ready to build the album. just then i saw the sneak of modern homemaker. i knew i had to wait. then the campfire. don't i love october afternoon!

let me walk you though my halfway done childhood story....

i call it memory lane using a travel scrabble tiles. you know...memory lane as in stepping back in time and memory lane as in wisteria lane as a friend said. now, need i be so literal.

i stuck a postcard for the old street address and stamp date. i haven't done it obviously. there will be family member pictures popping out the window and some details. stuck with a spring, i love my wobbly mom; although i doubt she'd ever worn an apron for real. :) the woolies and fabric blooms are basic grey's hello luscious and the fences are embelliscrap. i hand-cut the chipboard trees (well with the help of my help), covers them with wood rind and age them a little. also the clouds and kite, and covers them with felt and hand-sewn them. you can only half imagine the work for this ensemble and i haven't even started.

the ensemble opens up to some of my fond memories. the idea is of course not to build a literal life on this ensemble, but to keep the impression of my childhood memory. late 70s early 80s...you know, the pre-computerized days. when we play a lot of physical and role playing games indoor and outdoor. actually everything was about playing then and so here.

the right panel will have little collage pictures, journaling and stuff using little frames from melissa frances and of course stickers from various october afternoon's collections. that's my indoor wall. i still need to gather the pictures.

can't remember where those wooden letters came from; they're in similar shape of the fly a kite's boy and girl. i covered them with golf grass and my painter friend helped me paint them. he wanted to and he's a better painter than me. my other brother is still missing, but he's joining soon. you see joe is holding a kite spool? if you read the kite runner, then you have an idea how the boys played the kite then.

i should have taken more detailed pictures. the grass flaps opens up to two side by side albums, perfectly rest to the side wall by the power of invisible magnets. i'm pretty proud of that inkling because otherwise i would have to use velcro...yikes. more stories and photos on the panel, but again they're not there yet so nothing much to see for now.

these are the two mini albums. third try and i gave the previous 2 to the friends who were also doing this project with me. they're identical to this, but very minor issue with which sides should be the cover side by side was a big deal for me.

lots of things going on here, each strand was a memory or will be by the time i'm done. these are the spines which rest perfectly to the sidebar wall.

the albums are pretty much done, just need photos and journalings.

outdoor album

actually i fashioned another album—enchanted garden for a class last weekend.

the main frame has a few full 12 x 12 pages. more stories will come here; camping on the yard, hide and seek, friends, hoping in and out the neighborhood. those days after school, we played indoor, then outdoor since it's always summer. some days are just longer...weekends and school breaks.

other page has of course a full 12 x 12 picture and a monopoly board (indoor games right) from report card collection.

and of course my wooden barn! the construction was like building a real one. it was supposed to be a storage room. since the first one looked like a cabinet instead, so a barn it is then. i will storage some memorabilia. i adore this barn and it plays the tune of the sound of music. who didn't watch it at least 127 times then. actually part of the reason why this project is never done, because every time i pass by it, i tend to just wind the music box instead of working on it.

it's not so easy working with old photos so i will dedicate a couple days sometime next week and prep them so i can finish the whole thing soon.

Guest Designer - Colette Wibisono

Ok... I am totally freaking out with this week's guest designer, Colette Wibisono! She is the perfect source of inspiration to start this year's guest designers for Create Well... Create Often. She will blow your mind with her amazing mixed media talent! I wish I could just sit with her while she works so I can learn how she does her layering and techniques...

Is “I do whatever my heart desires without worrying too much of the label attached to it” considered a style? Hahaha… I’m not sure if I have or want a specific style in terms of techniques and design. But I have a genre— philosophical comedy. In a word, I’d say: conceptual. I’m not into decorative scrapbooking per say. Every piece I do is a soliloquy from a fragment of thought, feeling or emotion; let it be in my writing or craft. Each has a longer and personal story which I could easily replay when I look at it. They’re either inkling of a deeper self or amusing detail of everyday moments. Very self indulging I must say and never yet for a show case. That’s make them my own and I adore them all, yet most likely making them not replicable. When my friends and I do group projects, I would suggest that they personalized the details and making the stories their own.

There’s no particular medium or a certain technique I like to use in binding the design or as a finishing touch up, not even favorite glue. If I want to put a certain effect because it’s the look that I want, then I experiment a bit with the mediums I have. There are probably better way to create the effect, but usually after a couple of tries I’m satisfied with what I accomplished.

Since I can’t stick water from the island, I used glossy medium gel and acrylic—what I have handy—for the water effect.

I wanted the cover to look like an old hand tooled leather over wood. This is when I first developed my wood finishing, which carried to the next level…

Anything in heaven and under the sun inspires me. A song...

a sofa...

I never rush to finish my projects, I savor the process and subconsciously play the story of what I’m trying to capture. A single object or sentiment will carry me to a story on spot. Perhaps because I have done my share of classical readings. I used to be a literary bum. To paraphrase a friend, “It may be that the characters are not me, but only people who I’ve mingled intimately with. Yet the emotions are all mine.” So scrapping/crafting wise, when I look at a product collection I usually see the story on spot. If I don’t see the story, it means I’m not relating to the visuals and chance is I’m never going to use them ever. No matter how pretty or cute they are.

I’m not a savvy crafter that I can advise others; but I can share my 2 cents worth. Starting this year, now that I know what I’m doing, I will not buy papers because they’re beautiful or cute for later use. I do not want to end up with more wasted materials faster than I can get rid of them, since I’ve been collecting scrapbook materials more than 5 years ago but only started making them last year. Worse, I do not want to be forcing myself to use them up. That is stuck-ism #1. Recently, I decided that the fastest way to get rid of them is too give them away.

Stuck-ism #2 is if I were to try following a step-by-step project. I immediately felt the lack of cohesion because I can’t fit my story into the scene. No matter how impressive and beautiful they are.

My biggest obstacle is I’m not a picture person. duh@me for picking up a hobby. Then, we do not have a proper art/supply/scrap store where I live, Indonesia that is. I’ve been trying to get patina mediums all week with no luck. But it’s ok, I’ll make do. I will just have to make my own patina look or forget patina look for now.

captured memories — altered aviary workshop in 2 parts

for those who have heard me talking about it, here it is....

captured memories - mixed media altered aviary

it began when i saw this enticing 3d wood board aviary. i acquired it all the way from france. as most things french, it has unsurpassed beauty and quality—design and material wise.

one by one, vendor by vendor, country by country—4 months and so after i finally gathered some elusive materials i wanted to to use in indulging this altered aviary. i must say i'm swooned by how it turned out; worth all the efforts.

antique teak wood finishing

this aviary stands up as a 3d frame, and layer by layer it opens up to its inside spreads. i have personally experimented and developed a few mix media vintage finishing for this project.

that's the first part.

atc tray swap

in the same spirit, the 2nd half of the project is this tray. it is meant to hold up some round robin atc swap within the participants. the plan is to introduce international swap scenes for those who are interested.

inquirers will be given access to private online viewing and more information about this project.

classes hardly ever come by in town, so i was very excited to join lia of scrapgoodies' long awaited first with the lovely ladies on sunday.

we made this gorgeous story of my life journal.

my focus lifespan didn't get me too far in finishing the album in the class, but as soon as i reached home, i immediately continued working on the spine.

the "secret" key was my starting point and i build up the rest.

along with extra supplies given by generous lia on top of the class kit, i add various trinkets from tim holtz ideology, prima pebbles, webster's trims, 7 gypsies, twills from max' supplies stash and scraps of this and that from my personal flea market/junkyard dumps.

i haven't got the chance to work on the inside yet, but i'm already thinking to make more and more of this journal.

thank you dee, anita, marlin for the wonderful time and especially lia for the awesome journal. you're an awesome dt and i'm so looking forward for the next one.

for the longest time, there are 2 names i remember in scrapbooking: elodie touzet as iggydodie and ali edwards. we all know the later for her superior story telling style and memoir. she records her family daily events for her generations to come.

if ali tells her story with words; elodie tells her story in black and white pictures with subtle beauty and romanticism. her scrapbooking is about her traveling the world with her husband, and her beautiful little family: she, her husband and their adorable little yorkshire.

i respect both mostly of their timeless consistency and how they keep true to their vision regardless the trend today. to me, elodie and ali are the memory keepers; they scrap their stories and pictures to keep for years and years to come. when they look back, it's always the story and the pictures...the rest, details et al, are just extra peripherals.

my first mini album many moons ago :)

a few years ago, i made my first mini album mimicking one of elodie's. i wrote her in my poorly translated french asking her how she altered the album. sweetness...she responded immediately in her broken translated english, telling me to use an old children storybook, gesso, acrylic and sponge. my artist friend who was visiting from oslo introduced me to the technique.

it's a story of max' first bath at home if not one of his earliest. :)

so, when i first got back in scrapping earlier this year, the first thing i did was to check iggydodie. it turned out that she now has a boutique selling class kits, instructions and other "elodie's stuff". right there and then i bought some of her kit, embellishments, cds and all. months after, doing it bit by bit, reading from the pictures mostly, i finally finished the kit.

please excuse the harsh afternoon sun and dark shade on my balcony today.

elodie always make her own embellishment from left over papers, use mix media distressing and add subtle romanticism to her scrapbook.

wish some lady cousins in town: marlene, ladi, monica, dewi and uncle christian from montreal...

my favorite aunt josette and my mom nicole...dewi and her husband marcel and adorable daughter brinette...

dewi is like my mom's youngest. she used to stay over every weekend and on school holidays...

before the show biz and her marriage. they still do drop by a lot. :)

my lovely cousin gisele, now a grown up...like me! haha...she's all over my childhood.

aunt celine from...er... ok aunt celine was born in france, took a long journey with my grandparents and other siblings and grew up in jakarta. got married and lived in california for a while and moved to genève, bermuda, few places, nyc, bangkok, back to jakarta for a while. we counted she had moved 44 times, cities and countries. ok now she's back to aunt celine from california.

sun and shade...bad boys!

i'm fascinated by elodie's touch of detailing and how over the years she manages to keep the same style but with different comprehensive self indulging techniques. although it might not look like it, but there's lots of work and lots of techniques involve in the creation of this ensemble. everything is there not to beautify the piece, but to blend and signify the design into the treasured stories she's immortalizing. all these, like most of elodie's pieces are created merely by a few piece of papers, tags and a few simple embellishments, but always with flowers. just lovely!

i had to take the last page out. :( due to some measurement mishap, i couldn't fit this in the album. me don't read instructions very well, especially in french, worst with lots of long breaks in between. alas, it's the page where i have my cousin george—whose talented wife tattie had taken some of the pictures in this album—and their children, handsome gabe and pretty kayla, also my mom's goddaughter.

wish i could fit all individuals from my mom's remarkable family including my own, but the album has a limited space and elodie hardly put up more people than the 3 of them: hubby, wifey and puppy. aha! that's an idea. i will do a vintage project of my mom's family i love so much. her best friend for more than 55 years recently did something like that in dvd for her birthday present. (that's partly why i was mia for a while.)

hmmm...that's it! i hope i do elodie justice in recreating her la vie est belle.

i promised lia that i would practice to sleep earlier tonight so i can be up and running on saturday for the hip hip hooray class; and earlier is almost passed now since it's 1:26am desktop time and i haven't even bathe yet. oh...and do my egret therapy. i better go!

viva mexicana bracelet

i finished dazzling hip hip hooray class sample last night and made this bracelet after karin's while waiting for lethargy to kick in.

i used tierracast charms—viva mexicana, sacred hearts and a tree of life. influenced by the mexica folk artists josé guadalupe posada and frida kahlo, the viva mexicana collection brings elements of dia de los muertos (day of the dead), mexican milagros (miracles), talavera pottery and religious iconography. [sic]

so suwage-ish—a dear friend, an indonesian contemporary maestro, a partner in "beagling"...you know his vox mortis, vox orbis. i'll show this to him. :)

i'll be back later today with another project i just finished.

scrap goodies—owned by a dear friend, lia—is trial launching a monthly scrap kit club. she started with 3 kits.

i'm honored to run 1 of the classes based on glitz designs's hoopla collection kit and other various trinkets and supplies.

we agreed to do a birthday and anniversary reminder journal, which i will personally use to record a daily anecdote next year.

i call it hip hip hooray...

we will do a glueless secret stitch binding and turn a boring plain chipboard to a beautiful textured spine...

monthly pocket signatures and decorate them with pictures if you wish...

it's been a long hiatus! in the midst of life, time flies too fast. between short travels, health problem and other issues in life (including practicing the art of doing nothing), 2 months have passed. but, i'm very much alive and kicking.

i've promised max (yes...the handsome beagle) that i would scrap him. i also committed to my patience scrap group a couple projects. i agreed to do a piece using cosmo cricket's delovely collection, which has perfect sofa for max to lounge around.

i altered a wall key box and turned it into a living room frame. i had to reframed the glass window since the original wasn't working.

it is intentionally cluttered to flatter the joy my dogs bring to my life. :)

my favorite boy with the caterpillar—i cut it apart and adhered it back using zip by thermoweb—one of my must have adhesive. it's a hybrid of silicone-glue gun and gives a perfect lifting for layering.

i use a couple punches to create the flowers

and cut free hand shapes on some of them.

this is choki—my sweet golden retriever, who loves to carry stuff in his mouth and has to eat laying down with the bowl served between his paws.

the small roses between the caterpillar are really tiny!

i think the jewels i used are prima and melissa frances.

my friends wanted to have a mini album with this project. so i'm suggesting that they use the frame as the mini album cover. so basically when they take it out from the wall there will be more pages.

i adore my curtain. i can't remember the trims's brand, but the curtain hanger and the frame are melissa frances.

inspired by my merry little hound—sofa lover

madame desiree aka chili stitched the 1" square pillows neater than a prada shirt while i paced back and forth holding my breath behind her. i managed to thread the needles for her...hahaha.... she also kindly knitted the rug.

ode to my childhood

christine wanted to do an album using webster's pages lullaby lane. together with lia and mieke, we chose this as our first collaborative project. because of the long eid holiday, we didn't actually get to sit and do the album together as planned. i don't know if i'm loving this project in the beginning. mainly, because i didn't have lullaby lane collection to begin with. it's like going to a war bare handed with no ammo. frankly, i'm quite burned out with the pop-ups thingy. i adore the idea of taking a glimpse to my childhood pictures though. so here's my take...pretty much overdone.

lia picked out the 7 gypsies book cover. to give it the simple grandeur of an antique tooled leather bound book, i use melody ross's chip art alphabet stamps; and treated the cover with medium gel, tim holtz' alcohol inks and adirondack color wash.

it's been decided from the beginning that we wanted coptic binding. i haven't done any coptic binding since the academy days, so i thank christine for refreshing the memory of how to start it. because this is a patchwork album, we didn't get to notice that it's not actually a suitable binding for the project.

at the end, we managed...of course!...sort of... ;)

the album has 6 main signatures, individually tied up with a ribbon. i didn't like the plain bazzill linen cardstock as is. so i scored the edges to give it a more fabric feel—corduroy like almost, used stamps on the background paper to give it texture and storybook touch and black stamps on white cardstock to tone it down.

untied, each page opened up to a smaller insertion. i use pages from storybook, hambly screen print frames, distress ink, stamps,

various k & company ephemeras.

we ended up using all papers from garden gala collection and a few of postcards from paris as well.

on all main inside panels, i attached wall to wall photos and scraped the edges to white.

the left panel is quite tacky. i will probably take that off and change it.

i make sure all pages opens up flat, even those with the pop-ups.

what could be such a big secret at the age of 2? hahaha....

i will probably come back to this page and add a little picture on the left panel.

my mom took over christmas galas ever since my grandparents moved back to france right after she got married and we've been having family over christmas eve dinner ever since.

this page definitely need a photo.

christine loves hot air balloons. we're repeating what we did for her sassasfras anthem cover on this page using some parisian ones.

while waiting for all the pictures to upload on earlier post, i made this quickie petite moi frame using assorted prima flowers. i found the old black & white negative series, scanned and cleaned it up a bit and printed it on canvas.

i redid the life portrait carousel album from a workshop i gave last month. when the mock up was done, i figured to perfected the binding and thought i would also make one for myself.

second picture is the revamped binding with internal spine to reinforce support

originally i was going to put my younger days pictures. then, my mother's best friend of more than 50 years is asking me to help her collect old family pictures. she's making a video memoir for my mother's birthday present in november. as i was looking at those vintage pictures, i immediately decided to use some of them for this carousel album instead.

i use mostly webster's pages' life's portrait papers and use punches and shape scissors to build the album and embellishments. on the revamped version, i made some minor changes on the inside...just because.

papermarket 1st anniversary

papermarket singapore, my scrapbook haven is having its 1st anniversary and i'm featured as its fans! it's throwing all kind of bargains and stuff.

if they open a store here, it would be nice to build my tent outside their store. better yet, dig an underground tunnel from my house to its location, so i can commute few times a day without having to beat the traffic. got that from my last trip to singapore, i figured that i could actually commute faster from raffles city to plaza singapura and wheelock (laines)by mrt for the first time (jakartan here, not mrt person). of course in the future if i visit singapore i can't do that on my first day, since it would be a hassle and torture to carry all the shopping bags (again jakartan, not a big fan of carrying stuff).

meanwhile, i do what i do—check out the weekly fresh new arrival from the blog and order them by phone or email. this week i'm getting the judikins stamps.

i'm doing a few projects simultaneously for the past few weeks. i will post them next week.

wonderwork of lia

i passed my swap project with lia a couple of weeks ago and i'm going to show you what she gave me last saturday during our crafting day. being a darling she is, lia learned that i love alice in wonderland and she ordered, borrowed, stole alice stuff and created this wonderful alice inspired wonderwork for me.

words can not begin to explain how thrilled i was. i was in such awe that i couldn't do anything else that day. imagine the hard work she put into it—sleepless nights, called in sick, hours and hours of picture editing.

lia is the distressing diva—our very own tim holtz meets suze weinberg. those charms look familiar, thanks li...you know i love those!

she came late to our usual place which is a walking distance from where she lives. christine, our partner-in-craft—who helped with the stitching and the binding—said that either she must be still making sure everything sticks or overslept from sleepless nights.

every page is thoughtfully tied up with a ribbon...

and it opens up to another page which i'm to fill with my own story.

we were so deliriously happy, we forgot to take pictures. thanks to our ever so thoughtful and organized christine for remembering and hurriedly grabbed her huge camera and sent this to me—edited too.

i sure will finish this album in the near future between our other projects. for now i will just savor it and put it in save keeping before mr you know who take a taste of it. now, off you go to lia's sanctuary!

a journey with merdrey

i went to say hi to merdrey—papermarket's designer/instructor, who's been very kind in helping me with my mail orders. she told me about the classes she teaches and showed me her fabulous projects. on my last night, i made it to her journey class.

we altered a wooden stamp box and made it into a weathered trunk. merdrey said she looked up on vintage louis vuitton's trunk when she designed it. gorgeous!

merdrey carried the class at ease and we chatted through, because only me and claire showed up. i really enjoyed it. i told myself, i will be back for more of her classes every time i go to singapore.

i love the detailing and told her, i will come home and start utee-ing all my stuff...hahhahaa....

we get to see it finished way before time and she let me dig the new arrival which wasn't displayed yet. like i said, she's a sweetheart and every one who have met her would have said so.

she said we should take a picture togetther. i didn't bring my camera and the shot from my cellular didn't do justice. i'm waiting for her to send me the picture she took with her camera and introduce those of you who haven't met her.

i'm back and i'm going to blog with vengeance...ha! the physical overhaul wasn't quite successful, so i thought about the arts and crafts haul. in short, i have half a luggage of max' & co stuff. another luggage is scraping and beyond stuff of course.

i actually have ordered graphic 45's alice and steampunk, but i couldn't resist when i saw them firsthand. also some of the older batch. i'm liking this company, although i never made anything with them yet.

i saw these my mind's eye collections on the afternoon i was leaving back. of course i planned the trip back on a thursday because that's the day made with love weekly new arrival are displayed. i love these classy glittery collections.

thickers, sassasfrass' alphabets which i've been looking for a while now, and melody ross' alphabet stamps from gcd studio. don't everyone have more thickers than they can use and still keep buying for more.

laine's and papermarket was having promo of 45% off for punches. although i don't use them much, but couldn't resist the deal. i also got lots of 40% off coupons. first from their make and take and from my first day shopping spree. i also picked a few of somerset magazines. they're about the only craft magazies i consider worth buying these days.

the rest are polymer stuff—molds, studio sculpey and et cetera. canvas, frames, lots and lots of pewter and copper charms, cameos and kin—thanks to my mother for pointing them out for me.

i don't think my niece was too happy when i gave her a few bags of max' goodies to bring back home before she could even said hi to me. i'm pretty sure i couldn't fit a single needle more in my mom's or my suitcases by the time we're leaving back home.

for a person who doesn't actually scrap that much, i think i'm quite a scrapshopaholic. my mom said that i have more than enough knickknacks. she has no idea!

life's portrait workshop

by request of my lovely friend who lives in a middle of nowhere with no zip code...i'm throwing my first private workshop for a group of 7 artsy ladies. i mean, they're the city's creme de la creme of scraps and beyond. so that's like me landing in normandy on world war II with a pair of scissors with a mission to overtake the germans. by the way, i was just kidding about my friend's domain. it's my pun for her severely impaired internet connection which allows her to type 1 3/4 of a sentence before it lags for another 15 minutes. we're planning to communicate by owl mail in the future.

anyway, it began with her request for a carousel pop up album and she managed to convince the whole troop to join during their next gathering, which is august 7.

i'm calling mine, "portrait of a young girl" after portrait of an artist as a young man and portrait of a lady of course. i recently found a black and white negative of me and my brothers from when we were toddlers. considering that's close to 40 years, the negatives were in a pretty good shape. a dear friend is helping me cleaning up some spots and i'm up to scrap them major style. now that i think of it, i should be calling it portrait of a young lady. see if i can peel it off.

i will share the pop up dream catcher page after the workshop. that last page is my favorite and rather ambitious i should say.

my most enthusiastic scrapper friend, lia sutra and i talked about swapping a project. she loves vintage style and i thought of making her something with metal and polymer. then she mentioned again and again that she loves the carousel mini album and mother's day frames i made. since i still have the materials, so i came up with a memory box using the cosmo cricket's material girl stash. i love cricket's products, but none of the indonesian scrapbook store carries the brand. i'm still aiming for their delovely collection. i missed it's arrival at laine's papeterie singapore.

anyway...

i find this project redundant, but lia said if she doesn't have it yet, nothing is redundant, even if it's being reproduced numerous times.

the frame is detachable and can be displayed as a stand alone. so is the mini book.

with this construction, which is slightly different with the previous mini album carousel, i should actually do 5 chambers instead of 4. too many cutting, sticking and multitasking in between that i missed to see that before i attached the cover.

i'm happy that this memory box will go to lia and her beautiful family. she's just starting a blog as i'm typing this and chatting with her simultaneously. do drop by to her sanctuary and say hello. i'll take a peek of her newly made prima album as soon as i hit publish.

summer cha 2010 breakthrough tool

unarguably the greatest ad that has ever been created is "1984", a tv commercial introducing apple macintosh personal computer during the superbowl.

nineteen eighty-four, george orwell, dystopia, the big brother, but most importantly...the birth of mac. it's brilliant period. a genius unsurpassed by any apple products combined. btw my first computer was macintosh II 20mb with a color screen and it was a major style then. it cost me almost $7,000 in 1988, not including the b/w hp printer...not that you asked.

what gives? now, if you're done laughing, we can go on to what i consider the most innovative scrapbooking tool ever...

teresa collins stampmaker

this tool basically let you create your own stamps and stencils endlessly (until we brake it perhaps) in a heart beat. look at how detail those stamps are. teresa has shown what we could do with it and a video questions she's been receiving about the product. if you catch my drift, you should by now begin to imagine the endless possibilities this tool could do. if you haven't and have difficulty imagining so, compare it to the mac. unlike my mac II which i used about 27 times, teresa said the suggested retail price is merely US$169.99. don't worry, i rewind it and listened twice to make sure my hearing is working properly, and the refill packages of various sizes are...whatever, they're reasonable. i's so going to get it. hopefully it will hit retail by next month.

additional thought the morning after...

now that the adrenalin is back to normal and i've slept on it, i'm no longer keen on buying this tool. i'm quite sure the second generation will include the laser precision printer it needs. that would be handy. without the printer, i might as well skip the tool and do the stamps using regular bulb. still, many thanks to teresa for opening up information on dyo polymer stamps. should one day i feel the need to make my own stamps, i will start calculating the most cost effective way. for now, i just buy the designs i need or like.

i used mostly k & company hopscotch girl and doll house collections throughout. i fancied the company so much that i have everything, i mean everything, they made since the beginning up to prior ek success acquirement.

now, i better lay out a few disclaimers this project needs:

the skeleton of this album was supposed to be just a mock up. i was to do another one once i figured the structure. albeit i found out that i'm going to be occupied for the rest of the week. so i tried to make it work in one sitting with the disruption of max kept tugging me and when i ignored him, being a beagle he decided to scrap along. he is a master of trimming and today he abruptly learned to fold papers, before he figured his masterpiece served better function as another cozy lounge rather than artwork.
the making memory ready-to-glitter stickers i used in the cover wouldn't hold the glitter. so i layered it with glue and glitter, leaving me with a glittery beagle and wiggly alphabets.
i couldn't get the pictures right, not that i usually could anyway. i laid them in a lovely composition and the picture turned out rather foggy. so i wrote this up and thought i would reshoot in the morning. turned out, the sky showered wildly. in the afternoon i didn't have time to find the right spot to get the shadow right, nor time to do editing and decided to use whatever is there as is.
i purposely left it as is so you could continue to customized it to your own story, thus i include the goodies.

all for my excuse of the album being rather dodgy, let alone its rather corny cover. it's paw-made! just kidding... it's still made with my best intentions though.

remember my each individual is crafted unique for the swap a couple of weeks ago? i bought most of the images i used on sunday's best and some of the blue / pink lollipop journaling spots from cassi's creations on etsy. my first etsy buy. i spent a few days creating my swap. after that, since i was down with asthma, there's nothing much i can do for the rest of the days until the gathering. i started browsing and learned that cassi's creations owner cassandra vancuren has a blog, my artful adventures. my beauty...i went on an adventure trip on her enchanted blog. she is the dame of vintage whimsical shabby. had i found her before the swap, perhaps i would have done something totally different. i visit her beautiful blog often and on 1 happy trip, i stumbled upon this...

i couldn't resist on leaving her note. little that i know, it was a post in which she added a gift for her 200th post—which i just learned today because today, when i visited her, i found...

i couldn't believe what i see! i have another gift...today?! you probably couldn't believe it either! when celine notified me that i won her kit, i thought...how fortunate, this chance will only come once, and never again no matter how many times i visit blogs...and here i win another without me knowing.

i have been forever thankful with my bountiful blessed life of unplanned journeys with endless blessings only known by my heart of heart...just like today. believe...life is beautiful and full of wonders.

i got the idea while reading my facebook newsfeed. it's so happening...i sure am surrounded by opiniated relations.

the silhouette are made of black velvet textured paper...classy! thought i was going to beautify them by adding gloss, glitter and shadows...

then again rafa claimed his title straight set, robbing my extra time to work on the talkies. so for now i will just leave them bare basic until they're ready for their debut.

i wasn't overwhelmed with her gesture. it's a state of existence i very well understood, we found ourselves another kindred spirit, no further explanations needed.

my...my.... she remembers that i have asked her about the canvas she used in her "life artist" class and sent me some as well.

deus ex machina

lia sutra made the travel back in time distressed chipboard album for the swap event last week. i told her that i will use hers on my next project, so here it is.

originally i made a time machine altered doll from a dismembered watch parts, dead electronic board, charms and various metal parts. i was trying to create a deus ex machina. half way through, in an inkling bougureau's la crepuscle (twilight) (or evening mood—as i knew it) struck my vision, so i left the zetti meets steampunk doll and the original idea of the project and came up with whatever was handy.

every so often she travels back in time to revisit

if there was anything impressive i did a few years back is that i read classical literature. i came across the collector's choice book list and my 2 years of dedicated hunting and reading begun. one list went to another, i was assured then that all i wanted was to be a literary bum. that was another story though.

here are my all time favorite thinker whose words inspired my every aspects of life.

i spent a good hour typing who, what, why and deleted them when i realized that i should probably do another blog on the soliloquy. to keep it simple, they are: leonardo da vinci, aristotle, hilaire belloc, st thomas aquinas, dante, king david, homer, william faulkner, james joyce and shakespeare. of course i adore other stories and writers, like evidently the merchant of marvels and the peddler of dreams or on seeing the 100% perfect girl on a beautiful april morning...these are the brilliant ones with unsurpassed beautiful minds.

i never actually realized the detail of my design unless i blog them. look at that stamped flower on top of aristotle's head, why is it popping up, and why is the vitruvian man scroll looks as if it's knocking his head. i like leonardo's thinking cap though, it's a watch machine.

the majestic michelangelo's king david whose psalms are the most beautiful writings we have to read. the key is meant to be his kinnor.

ria nirwana is hosting a swap gathering this weekend celebrating ali edwards' week in the life project with a group of indonesian scrapbookers. that was the week my asthma started to relapse, needless to say i abandoned the project. i thought i was going to catch up when i feel better, it got worst and basically my life was in suspended animation until a few days ago.

thank the good lord, i'm well now and ready to attend the gathering and haul 28 sets of handcrafted items from enlisted swappers.

a shot of panoramic 7th hole, nirwana bali golf—amongst the most dramatic holes in world golf, playing from the tee to the fairway across the indian ocean. that picture was quite some time ago because i haven't been golfing for more than 2 years now.

materials are mostly prima and thickers.

so what do we do with those broken letters of thickers alphabets or leftover scrap of papers?

max' mr march pin up shooting session for groovy, here i use the leftover scrap of paper and materials from previous layouts. if you notice, i use 2 broken set of thickers. i could also use a rubberstamp if i don't have enough letters. the bottom layer of frames is the packaging of prima embellishment, or i could layer it with more scrap papers.

when he first arrived in the house, my aunt said pepper looks like a british gentleman because of his moustache. we then learned that he earned the title because of his chivalry. unlike my supposedly all red champion bloodline pedigreed beagle a.k.a (of the day) robin hood, pepper never steal, always well-mannered, cuddly, independent, brave (never cries), composed, knows when to be playful or sit still like a fine gentleman.

always persistent and inquisitive, nothing can stop this merry little thing from sniffing. his button nose wiggles even when he's snacking and snoozing, his other love affairs. it's his way of keeping up with his world, like us surfing the web, watching news or reading newspaper. he just have to know.

ivonne is actually my first cousin once removed—my dad's cousin that is. we've been neighbor since birth, classmates since primary school all the way to highschool. when i studied in san francisco, she moved fro los angeles and joined me in town. she's one of my first sisterly friend, nemesis of the hour, mental therapy, partner in crime, sisterhood...among many other first.

...besides taking pictures with peacocks. i was on a transit before boarding the three gorges cruise.

the whole layout is done with webster's pages's la boutique de jardin paper and tres magique as the base.

i did a lot of scoring to give the 3 dimensional effect. repeated the nest and eggs to mimic the paper.

i slipped in a few blue silk flowers which looks like the flowers printed on the paper. my mother was throwing them sometime ago and i kept it. the red ones and the leaves are prima.

this is a quick layout i did, because i couldn't sleep. still the asthma. i love this picture although it's blurry. it's my niece tasha's 17th birthday. her older sister, tara just returned home for a summer holiday from toronto. when i got to their house for a family dinner, they were playing snakes and ladders with their little brother. jes said the game wasn't fun...because he was losing. i'm happy to see they're always capable of playing together despite the age gaps and interests. most of all, to never lose the childhood fun in them.

i like how the buttons borders turned out. they represent the fun of the joyous occasion—one i would like to remember.

i was trying to find the hippolyte's island and max also wanted to look for his book, probably the snoopy box set he once chewed its roof off. yes, i've read them all, and the next shelves and the next.

sassasfras products are always fun and merry. they're so colorful; i use black and white photo so that the books won't clash with the embellishments. i leave us in spot color which still emphasis the picture in the midst of colorful embellishments.

what i love about sassasfras is that we can cut the papers and use them as embellishments.

our journey

i joined a scrapbook class for the very first time. it's called our journey, an album fitted into a lovely suitcase by the charming ria nirwana. the theme colors are: turquoise, napples yellow and copper, hence the dress code.

when i signed up, i was thinking of scrapping the other places i used to live and my other vacation homes; the island as my weekend getaway ever since i was a toddler, san francisco during school years, paris and hong kong where my grandparents lived. then life and et cetera took over and i didn't have the time and energy to collect the pictures. so i use what i have printed from few trips to the island in the recent trips. the island belongs to the thousand island archipelago in jakarta bay. my dad bought it when i was about 3 years. growing up, it was our weekend home. it has seen my family's journey of life; children growing up, expanding family members and relatives, friends, more friends, people we worked with, pets, final resting place, interests, hairstyles, books, drinks, extra pounds, you name it all...life and memories. like everyone of us, the island itself through the years went to many changes inside out...whether it's by our doings or forces of nature.

thus i didn't follow the whole format and supplies given with the kit, as it was designed more on an air travel journey. but i try to keep true to the spirit...the merriment of traveling. i'm not used to scrapping outside my space but it's fun to do it with a group of people. i thought i managed to finish at least the skeleton (construction, background, painting, etc) in the class. a week later, i still struggle to finish the album at home. there were problems here and there with the skeleton, in the end i decided to make shortcuts and ended it.

i'm a multitasker with a short concentration span. that's like a chicken and egg thing. my brain usually process concepts which then allows me to work on a flow effortlessly in a speedy manner—1 or 2 sittings even on the hardest jobs. sometimes it fails to do so, and it failed on this project. probably because i've been down with asthma for daysss now. but never mind that! i'm quite happy with how it turned out after all. the problem is...it's over packed!!...which makes it more realistic, since i always over shop on any trip, any...!

i've walked the soft sandy pink beaches of bermuda, picturesque sand dunes of oman desert, ancient phoenician beaches of cyprus, strolled and mused along south beach miami...among many other beaches and memorable trips around the world. in all those places i've always hand-scooped the sand and brought them home for souvenir. sometimes i spot them and at a glance i remember where they're from, but there's no reminiscence of the exact moment i collected them. unlike the ones from our island. i remember them; the time i sat on the beach for hours collecting and cleaning piece by piece of the micro perfect shells—smaller than rice, softest sand from the shore on a high tide and the ones from a recent trip with my family where we spent one perfect morning beach combing on a low tide.

and that's what the suitcase's embellishments are all about;"i traveled 4 corners of the world, 1 tiny spot hooks me". i use an old real fishing hook a memory frame with a picture of max and i on a beautiful morning on our last trip with a couple of tiny shells which we collected later on the day, a rapala from my brother's fishing box—which to him is like a prima flower to me, and a miniature bottle with the sand and those micro shells with a message inside "each grain is a memory".

i use canvas pictures as the base. i didn't have time to actually print photos on canvas, so i just printed the photos on iron on sheets and ironed them on canvas. the first spread are pictures of me strolling around the island with my beagle. the second has an origami which i use for our fishing pictures with conversation or anecdote bubbles, like that one which says "to fish or not to fish... not to fish?? yea, like that's even an option". to the men in my family, fishing is like me and all of you combined to scrapping—it's not their life, it's much more important. it's their profession and when they have spare time, they go to work.

a page on that beach combing morning and playing with the sand later. layers and layers of family, friends, visitors, dogs with different activities in the island. one favorite is my cousin's bloodhound, pluto jumping trying to grab a fishing reel from another cousin's hand as if he wanted to show how to do it properly. actually it was from a trip many years ago. i don't remember the incident, but i remember the trip. it's circa '92. i had to skip work on a monday, because the boat was having a glitch. a neighbor friend who is now deceased was in the trip too, and fluffy my beloved golden retriever.

this page has another origami. i dedicated it in memory of my father. almost 9 years ago, we moved his remains from the family mausoleum in macao to rest in his heaven on earth, the island, close to the sea he loved so dearly where he used to fish almost every weekend. since it's impossible to build another grand tomb in the island, we laid the temporary epitaph lain in macao before the whole mausoleum was finished, and the angel. also to my beloved grandmother whose ashes we scattered along the coast a few years ago. i can't help to laugh at a picture of max drinking the water from a vase while my mom and i were arranging some flowers and my aunt sitting on a chair talking with us. it wasn't funny then because i was worried it wasn't fresh water, it's funny now to look at our expressions.

le mayeur, one of my favorite painter once made a statement of his island home..."i never left the island. why should i? sir, i'm an impressionist. there are three things in life that i love. beauty, sunlight and silence. now could you tell me where i can find this in a more perfect state?". i know that feeling.

so that's the journey. lots of dimensional, materials, medias and fun!

lesson learned: i have 10 fabulous brushes on hands :)

i made these picture frames for my mom. before she's retired, she used to run a garment business. sewing and gardening are the 2 past times she loves most amongst her vast interests and talents. well, before her latest passion of computer games and nintendo ds took over recently.

a beagle scrapbooker

what do you recon he's thinking with the expression?

so, i helped him finish,

using some of the scraps he worked on.

yes, including the paper. how on earth did he manage to pick a dog theme, don't ask.

i use his paw for the paw print. he wasn't happy about it. i didn't quite succeed actually. the clear stamp was already too old perhaps. when i pressed his paw to the pad it disintegrated and the powder wouldn't melt under the heater. so, i just use varnish spray to make them stick on the paper. not too shabby, looks like mud print.

look who came to visit when i was trying to take the pictures.

he's doggone tired following me around the room, checking and directing me as i pick stuff up and assembled the pieces.

hypothesis of why a beagle pick up scrapping:
- the merry little thing is in a good mood

- he's left alone in a room for 10 minutes

- curiosity! what else, he's a beagle

a walk on the family island with max. i made a mini slide show one fine weekend of our time in the island that weekend. he wasn't eating the sand, but being a beagle he couldn't resist sniffing them here and there. little that he knows, sand sticks on wet nose. i figured he's not fond of swimming because there's no ground to step on (and to sniff on!)

my lord pepper turns 3! oops...i must have put it upside down after he toppled it.

as always my sweet boy is more interested on me than food, when i'm close enough. isn't he lovely?

unlike the gentleman, this prince of my heart who turned 4, 3 days after...max could sniff food a mile away! it's almost impossible to take his picture with the cake. his had spun around like the ceiling fan on high speed. in a matter of seconds he managed to lick the frosting of his birthday cake and grabbed the biggest chunk he could when he realized it was taken away from his face. look at how his eyes fixated on the cake. hahaha...

this year, max' and pepper's birthday theme is snoopy. max is the snoopy and woodstock looks like pepper, no? a little then! i bake max' and pepper's birthday torte and goodie bag treats for their 4-paws friends.

my mom get along really well with her siblings and in-laws; they are 6 sisters and 4 brother. in fact, they're best friends. they spend a lot of time together on everything; vacation, exercise, tennis, grocery shopping, health check-up...you name it all! when one is into something, the other follows. not all of them live in the same country, but they visit each other and travel together a lot.

my little shoebox - away we go is just perfect to scrap their saturday rituals. my aunt and husband would pick an uncle and his wife, another aunt who lives next door to him and another aunt who stays with her whenever she's in town, then pick my mom. that's the route! when there are more people coming (more siblings in town), then they will do another car pool. i became apart of this ritual.

i waited eagerly in bali's december heat for my turn to play with babe, a baby orangutan in bali safari & marine park. she's such a bundle of playfulness and curiosity; very comfortable with human touch and fond of cuddles. she immediately went for my hat and played peek a boo with it and reached for my shades. after our fondling, she reached for her caretaker to carry her, and he handfed her some snacks. i hope he treats her well.
